Though we wouldn't call it a rumor, exactly, there has been some speculation that Glenn Howerton might be one of the names being considered for the role of Lex Luthor in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy.
The theories seem to stem from the fact that the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor came very close to playing Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy before Chris Pratt ultimately landed the part, and has spoken about potentially working with Gunn on another project in subsequent interviews.
Now, Howerton has fuelled online reports that he may be in contention to play the Man of Steel's nemesis by sharing some fan-art to his Instagram Stories.
Whether Howerton is actually in the running or not, he's clearly trying to gain a bit of traction and gauge interest with this artwork. As for who else is said to be on Gunn's radar for Lex, we've heard that Nicholas Hoult could still be a possibility, along with both Alexander and Bill Skarsgård.
Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The supporting cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Casting is currently underway for Luthor, Jimmy Olsen and Perry White.
Barring any delays, Production is scheduled to commence next January.
