POLL: Looks Like We're Onto Something with that "Jenny" Olsen Scoop!

Last Monday, CBMer "MisterMoustache" posted the scoop that an unknown actress (Rebecca Buller) might be playing Jimmy Olsen--or as she was listed on IMDB "Jenny" Olsen. He pointed out that...

...in the MAN OF STEEL trailer, Perry White (played by Laurence Fishburne) was running away from a falling building hand in hand with the actress (Buller), which is pretty good evidence that she isn't just a side-character. And with the absolute absence of any news about an actor playing Jimmy, it hit home.

Well, ComicBookResources did some follow-up with WB and they gave them the "No Comment," which usually means our guy is probably on to something.

Unfortunately, CBR gave credit for the scoop to DigitalSpy, who took it from our site the day after "MisterMoustache" posted it here, and the "reporter" didn't source where it came from. Way to go Simon Reynolds! Those are some awesome journalistic ethics ya got there.

In any case, we want to know what you think about Jimmy Olsen's neutering, so take our poll below.

Don't care if he's a she. Probably for the best anyways. Now Jimmy's crush on Clark/Supes will be a little less weird.

@TheDudeRises- "Now Jimmy's crush on Clark/Supes will be a little less weird"

LMAO i loved that!

It'll be awkward if this new female Jimmy ends up in a love triangle between Superman and Lois Lane. It'll be funny/awkward cause in the back of my mind, it's still Jimmy LMAO

Maybe Jenny mentions Jimmy Olsen as her cousin? I don't know... Maybe Jimmy will be in this universe. I mean, has anyone ever mentioned Jimmy's family in the comics? Maybe Jenny has some relation and Jimmy will appear in the MoS sequel.

I really don't see why they would make Jimmy a girl. It would make more sense to me to make Perry White a woman to show where Lois where Lois may be heading (Mary White? Carrie White?). Jimmy idolizes Superman, so it just seems more natural to have a young man who wants to be like this ideal man.

@superherofan21- The reason most are thinking Jenny is actually Jimmy is because in the comics there was an alternate universe version of Jimmy Olsen that was a girl version named Jenny Olsen. It was him as a female basically.

Meh, I kinda hope it's his sister. If people don't like it though all they have to do is introduce Jim Olson as her younger brother who wants a job on the paper. Actually might be a great way to widen the character roaster in Superman's world.

But it's ok. Jimmy is still Jimmy in the comics which is important.

I love girls, and I'm very pro having more female comic book characters on the big screen(I even did a very long article about this subject), but Jimmy Olsen is a guy!

If they wanted more female characters in this movie, why didn't they just throw in Cat Grant? I still say Jenny Olsen is Jimmy's sister.
CavEl

Actually, IMDB cracked the case first, but Jimmy is a pest. At least now the character will be a pest with some sexinesss.

That Buller is SEX-E!
JosephKing

You know, I think there's a little sexism in those guys that keep saying: "Why would they do that? They could use Cat Grant or Chloe Sullivan." Well, maybe they'll do that. At least, I hope so. But c'mon, really? They'll might change Jimmy for Jenny to balance the gender of the cast and it bothers you because they could use TWO other female characters? Do you really think that's a fine number? Women in comic book movies are constantly reduced to the mother figure or the romantic interest of the hero. They don't have much space beyond that. If you take away Martha and Lois, who's the other female relevant figure in this movie? Only Faora, from what we know. Now let's take away Jonathan Kent, Jor-El and, of course, Supes himself. Who are the others male characters? Perry White, General Zod, Colonel Hardy, Dr. Emil Hamilton, General Swanwick, etc. Do you really think that's a fair count?
I really do hope they'll use Cat Grant (I don't know about Chloe, I think they'll might want to keep a distance from Smallville in there), and I have nothing against a female character replacing Jimmy - and that's the concept: replacing. She's NOT a girly Jimmy, she's a new character who's based on Jimmy.

Honestly who cares? Perry White is being acted by a black man and that doesn't bug me at all. If some of you guys are freaking out about this makes me wonder how nuts you would go if Batman or James Bond was being acted by a Black man.

@MisterMoustache I always felt Jimmy Olsen, much like Robin, gets a lot of hate from fans just because it's the cool thing to do. I wanted to see a well done, modern version of Jimmy on the big screen. No disrespect to Marc McClure, but he was the old school Jimmy Olsen.

Like Jimmy Olsen from S:TAS. That's what I wanted to see in MOS! Now, his gender is being changed. And the actress doesn't even have red hair in the movie! I'm all for balance and equality for women in comic book movies, but this is an unusual decision. Yes, I think it's important for female characters to break away from traditional female roles. And the balance/ratio of male characters to female characters. That's all important! And this has nothing to with Jenny Olsen being "girly." I never said anything like that.

I just wanted Jimmy Olsen to be adapted well, so people could finally see what a great character he is. That he's not just a "pest" or a minor, unimportant character. Now they're supposedly swapping his gender??? That's why I'm put off by this. It's not the worst thing, but I was hoping we would get an awesome Jimmy Olsen in MOS. If Jenny Olsen is an awesome character, then I guess I don't really have a problem with it.

No ones against balancing the genders in the cast. It's just a little unnecessary to completely remove Jimmy Olson, a fairly important character from the story. If they had to then they should just use some other female in his place, not make a female version of him. At least leave the possibility of him appearing later in this universe.
