Den Of Geeks has posted one of the first reviews for the show. Check out an excerpt from it below.
The thing about The Rise of the Turtles that impressed me most was the high standard of writing. The episodes are very funny. We get jokey dialogue, slapstick and humorous visual effects, and, for the most part, they really work.

The story moves at a good pace, allowing familiar characters to establish newly refined personalities without imposing on the action. The TMNT, in particular, are full, individual characters right away, which is something previous adaptations have struggled with. The new Michelangelo warrants special mention as the obvious highlight. This Mikey is silly, energetic and always enthused; he’s a proper cartoon character.

While the writing (and animation, which we’ll get to shortly) set Michelangelo up, voice actor Greg Cipes brings him to life perfectly. The character could easily have become annoying if overplayed, but Cipes finds just the right tone to make the character work. All four of the Turtles voice actors work well, with Jason Biggs proving to be an inspired choice as Leonardo. Amongst the supporting cast, I really liked what I heard of Mae Whitman as April O’Neil.

The only flaws I found with Rise of the Turtles were with the animation. As can often be the case with computer animation, the humans, for me, don’t look so good. April’s face, for example, looks really plastic and isn’t very expressive, and her father’s face lacks detail. Also, while mutant rat Splinter’s look is executed perfectly well, I’m not sure the design works.

Well..don't know what to think. It looks okay to me but it appears to be more a comic show than anything else which sucks quiet a bit.

Okay I know they are teenagers but it was still kinda creepy when Don was checking out April when she looks like she is 13 or so. I never remember any incarnation of the turtles ever having sexual thoughts about April maybe one of the comics but this is weird here. I do remember though in the 2003 incarnation Leo and Karai seemed to have some sexual tension I don't know.

I saw the first episode earlier today and was like holy sh*t. That was kind of bad. I hate the fact they got Jason Biggs as Leonardo who is my favorite turtle. And they got Sean Astin as Raph which is also a horrible choice. They got the guy from the originals 80s cartoon who did Raphs voice for Donetellos voice in the new one which I found odd. And they made Donnie the tallest one! Lol I didn't have high hopes for this cartoon anyways considering its on Nickelodeon.

I will give them one thing that I do like that the Turtles physically look different. Raph is the hothead tough guy so he is the bulkiest, Don is the smart nerdy one so he is tall and lanky, Leo is the calm and collected leader so he looks the a stereotypical quarterback in a t.v. highschool or something, and Mikey being the immature childish one he looks like he has kinda a pot belly him being the laziest of the four.

I'll live with the crappy animation and give it a shot

Can't wait to see it. C'mon guys it's definitely not targeted to us (Those of us who are over 30)... We had the 2000s series which was the closest we got to the comics. This looks like a modern version of the 80s series, made for this generation of kids. & anyone on this site over thirty who can really say they never liked the 80s series when they were kids has some serious issues. It was that cartoon that got me into TMNT in the first place. So, c'mon, give it a try. Not every incarnation of comic to television has to be targeted towards us. We'll all be dead & gone one day & there'll still be TMNT made for kids, as well as more mature versions

I remember when the preview for GL:TAS came out and it looked terrible. But then the show came out and it turned out that even though it still looked stupid, the series was fantastic. And am I the only one who remembers the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series? Because last time I checked, it was a mostly comical and childish show with fat, goofy turtles that joked around, loved pizza, and fought villains, i.e., a show for children. Considering this is also a show geared towards children, I'll give it a shot.

I grew up with the 80's cartoons and live action films. I had all the figures (my parents gave em all away sadly) and i can honestly say- Krang was always my favorite TMNT villain.

So far, this show doesn't actually look TOO bad. I thought it was gonna suck. But it actually looks ok.

btw- Just a theory of mine- but who else here thinks those mysterious guys holding the canister of ooze might have been the Kraang-droids? I mean, they can be made to look completely human and the mysterious nature of those guys...idk I just figure those might have been Kraang-droids. I have yet to see the first episode though

My 4 year old son can't wait for this to start airing. He already has the 4 action figures. (Wish I would have just held onto mine from back in the day) I give 2 shits if the CGI is a bit shoddy here or there or if Donatello is >gasp< the tallest of the 4. I seriously hope these aren't grown ass men whining about this kind of shit like they just got Sandusky'd.

From what I've seen so far, i like it! I think the animation looks great and the voice actors do a good job. We'll see what i think after a few episodes. Also, I just checked out the last three episodes of Ultimate Spider-Man (19, 20, 21) and i gotta say it's getting better. I actually laughed during them. It seems that Marvel are making subtle changes in the script writing that is paying off.

I know turtles have a funny side. Besides the first film, the 2005 film was the best so far. A nice medium of fun and gritty. Shit villians but anyway, Turtles falling for human little girls is kind of weird. Also why do all these cartoons have this dumb style like that of teen titans? goofy faces and stupid exliimation marks.

That first clip was exactly like my fan script on this very site, earlier this year. Except It was Mikey, not Leo. Which makes more sense.
This is so not the 4Kids show. And that is so not good.

I actually enjoy anime.

But the few anime quirks aren't meshing too well with TMNT here...

---

Also, why does everything in this seem dumbed down to 5 year old level. The jokes are just lame. And their characterization is weak. All four turtles act the exact same...

Know what? I don't love it. I don't hate it. This franchise isn't for me. It's for the kids. My life will not end with a new TMNT series. As long as the kids enjoy it and get honest, smart entertainment out of it, cool. If I had a kid right now, I would not curse Nickelodeon's name for them watching it. As long as April doesn't start stripping, Donnie doesn't start a meth lab, Raph doesn't run for mayor, and Splinter doesn't start a relationship with Paris Hilton, I think the Turtles will be alright.

As a fan and of the show in the 80s after watching the first episode I have to say that I liked it. The animation is not bad and it still has that wonderful ninja turtles vibe.

I really enjoyed the first two episodes. I thought the characters were done right, and it really opened it up a for a new generation. They stayed true to some of the comic origins, and made every turtle exactly how they would be today. I don't get knit picky about detail, so I'm not gonna whine or bitch about one little thing they didn't do (like not say a famous catch pharse)
My only complaint is April, I don't care for her being the turtles age, or so it seems. She's obviously not a reporter, but I can deal with that, and see where they take her. Overall this is a great start to a new TMNT franchise.

Oh and the Krangs were disturbing lol I'm sure they'll scare a lot of kids
I also liked how Splinter actually looks like he can kick some ass. And I found the Shredder and Splinter backstory very adult, which I liked.
