James McAvoy Reportedly Circling Lead Role In THE CROW Remake

X-Men: First Class' James McAvoy, who will soon reprise his Charles Xavier role in Days Of Future Past, is apparently the latest name attached to the role of Eric Draven in Relativity's remake of The Crow.

Here's an interesting potential casting report. It has been a while since we heard anything about Relativity's new adaptation of James O'Barr's The Crow, which has F. Javier Gutierrez attached to direct and Cliff Dorfman writing the script. We have heard several names attached to the lead role of Eric Draven, with Bradley Cooper once attached to star and both Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum considered potential candidates. Now, according to Bloody-Disgusting (who previously broke the news that Wahlberg was in "serious discussions"), a new actor is linked to the remake. James McAvoy, best known for his roles as Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class and Wesley Gibson in Wanted, is said to be circling the role of Draven, who is "brutally murdered [and] comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder." However, it's possible that McAvoy's commitment to X-Men: Days Of Future Past (which starts shooting this April) will keep him from taking on The Crow. Brandon Lee most famously played the character in Alex Proyas' 1994 classic. Stay tuned to CBM for more news on the film as we have it.

File this under: DO NOT WANT.

Leave the Eric Draven character alone. Use someone else to tell your Crow story.

In all honesty, The Crow is my most favorite movie of all time, its action packed, emotional and has such great visuals and a passionate perfomance by the late Brandon Lee...I just hope they leave this remake idea alone

They should leave it,a really good show....what I'd like to see done is a Lucas intervention and re release it with some of the effects brought up to speed.

It seems unfathomable that James O'Barr is allowing this event to take place. The original was the one and only and stands alone as it should. I fondly remember seeing it in Philadelphia as a premiere release only by a certain few lucky enough to have tickets.

In addition, the Crow franchise was bilked by the syndicated show "Crow Stairway to Heaven", in which the Eric Draven character must act as a sort of Saviour of others who have been wronged and he must act on their behalf before being reunited with the Shelly character.

It is unrotunate that Hollywood does not seem to have many new or fresh ideas as of late and either recycle or jut plain grab ideas from not very popular inspirations. Hey here is an idea, the 1970's game "Mousetrap" where participants must run from mutated lab rats in order to survive while dodging lethal obstacles.

don't want a remake, but if it has to be done, get Joseph Gordon Levitt to do it. McAvoy is too mature looking for the part.

havent watched the original yet, but if James gets signed, it would be a totally different role for him, so would be interesting to watch James on the role at least to me

tho really i'm not interested in a crow reboot at all. First one did it perfect. All you can do is make the crow LIKE OTHER MOVIES (like all remakes).

No to him in the part but more over NO to the re-make. A good man died during the making of this great flick and the way to show respect is a remake? I think it should be left alone out of Respect to Brandon Lee. Is Hollywood that bad that they just have to remake everything for some more money. I am sure they are and sure they will. Sad!

@Hammy- O'Barr doesn't have control over the film rights. I talked to him at the ComicCon in New Orleans. His exact quote (and I'll never forget it) was: "I don't care if they get Johnny Depp to star in it, and Ridley Scott to direct the thing. They'll never accomplish what Brandon did."

[frick] that. not him, just them doing any movie after the 1st in general.
