THOR 5 Fan Poster Ditches Taika Waititi's Colorful Palette For A Dark New Take On The God Of Thunder

With conflicting reports about Marvel Studios' plans for Thor 5, an electrifying fan-made poster puts a darker spin on the God of Thunder and includes an exciting selection of supporting characters...

When Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor was tapped to direct Thor: The Dark World, we all expected the God of Thunder's world to be injected with some of that Westeros grittiness. Unfortunately, the 2013 release was a disappointment.

Taika Waititi drastically reinvented the hero in the colourful Thor: Ragnarok, putting a comedic spin on the Asgardian's corner of the MCU. Lightning didn't strike twice, though, and last year's Thor: Love and Thunder was nothing if not hit-and-miss.

Another fresh start is desperately needed and a fan-made poster for Thor 5 - titled Thor: Battle of Gods - puts a dark new spin on the iconic character.

As well as embracing Thor's Viking roots, we see a supporting cast comprised of The Mighty Thor, Hercules, and even Loki. This sort of epic approach to the hero might be exactly what's needed...assuming it ever becomes a reality courtesy of Marvel Studios.

The trades recently debunked reports a fifth instalment is in the works, while Disney CEO Bob Iger has suggested now might be the time for Marvel Studios to move on from making sequels to sequels.

Thor: Love and Thunder wrapped up by setting the stage for the title hero to clash with Hercules, but that's a story we could eventually see play out elsewhere.

Whatever the case may be, another Thor movie hasn't been officially announced and it will likely be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty we next see the Odinson blast into action. Perhaps Destin Daniel Cretton can reinvent the hero?

Are you hoping Thor 5 becomes a reality?

Be cool to see Hemsworth be the lead and villain, he’s got some good villain chops. Thor vs Thor variant or some madness.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - or maybe just make it from Hercules' perspective. That could be fun as well

@bkmeijer1 - I dig that… but I think if it’s possibly his last solo outing they’ll not try sideline him in his last movie

@bkmeijer1 - ''call it Twilight of the Gods''. Mother[frick]er, they already had a movie that was meant to be called that, and they [frick]ed up that one, making it a shitty comedy. Twilight of the Gods is Ragnarok, the story about the Norse apocalypse. Do you understand that you're suggesting decisions just as bad as the ones Waititi and the MCU been doing with Thor since Ragnajoke? Just making a mess of everything and changing shit from the comics for no good reason.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - true. Whatever project is starring Hercules and Thor probably won't happen before Kang Dynasty/Secret Wars, so I can't see it happen either.

Unless ofcourse we get a Civil War type situation going on. Neither is really a villain or a hero, but the project only focuses on one of their arcs in particular.

Wish they would have kept fat Thor.

@HammerLegFoot - Yeah Thor 4 being a dramatic movie about Thor being fat and still a [frick]ing badass. (no jokes about him being fat or him being lonely etc)

Something that would embrace norse mythology and settings in the same way the God of War PS4 did.

But it's Disney, it has to be kid friendly, have powerful female leads and lighthearted humor...

@Usernametaken - 1. Lol your fanfic sound just as terrible as that piece of sh1t movie we got.

2. What the [frick] does MCU Thor got do with Norse Mythology? Thor isn't fat in Norse Mythology, moron. Also, why wasn't Norse Mythology so important when Ragnajoke was being made? Would much rather prefer Norse Mythology (which is really just the comics) used as a frame of refence for that movie, with Loki as the villain, Fenrir as his son, Hela as his daughter, and Naglfar.

3. You should've told them in 2017 when they made that piece of shit third Thor movie.

@Usernametaken - I hate faux Norse Mythology experts who hear a whistle and then think it's a fact. Some idiot made up that bullshit about Thor being fat since Endgame have come out to somehow legitimize that shitty depiction of the character and now everyone believes it. No, Thor isn't fat in the Eddas. It makes no sense for him to be imagined as an overweight guy. He was the god of the hard-working people. In ancient Scandinavia being a farmer and being fat was humanly not possible. You do not have enough food to become overweight, but even if you did, you would not get fat because you still have to work. So no, no farmer in the Viking Age would see Thor as fat, since that would contradict why they worship such a god. If anything, Marvel's Thor drawn by Oliver Coipel is more like what the norsemen thought Thor would look like, a brickhouse of a man.

@RolandD - the usual "I project onto other people the things I am the one guilty of"

It's a very common thing people do without knowing it.

Wouldn't mind it if they just left out Korg, Valkyrie and Jane altogether and make it just focused on Thor vs. Hercules (and call it Twilight of the Gods instead of Battle).

The team-ups are fun, but I'm honestly getting more tired of every movie being a team-up movie than I'm getting tired of the multiverse overusage.

Take Korg off the poster, put Loki's helmet on, add about 100lbs to Brett Goldstein.. and we're good to go.

@rychlec - Take Korg out of the film completely. He was a great touch in Ragnarok. Beyond that, he overstayed his comedic welcome.

Goldsteing fits this role so well. But I do agree, he needs to get on that Hemsworth regiment to really knock this role out of the park.

I'm a massive fan of Thor comics, but even if they got different writer/director than Waititi, preferably someone with completely different sensibilities and willingness to tell Hemsworth to cut out on the improv, I have no idea what story I would want to see. Most of the interesting Thor stories involve the culture and inner-politics of Asgard, but I just don't see any of them being particularly compelling with New Asgard or Valkyrie on throne, and all the fun supporting characters have either been killed (the Warriors Three) or seriously side-lined (Sif). Gorr-arc was basically the only particularly famous/good storyline, which they could have told with the current status-quo and they only wasted, I mean, used it.

Thor vs. Hercules was obviously set-up by the previous movie, but I don't see it holding up entire movie and even something like a variation on The Balland of Beta Ray Bill would hard to do impactfully, since they neutered Surtur so hard in Ragnarok and so many many characters have already wielded Mjolnir that there isn't really anything cool about this weird alien warrior coming out of nowhere and doing it, like it had in the comics.

Lose Taika as a director, get rid of Korg and replace him with a more serious character like Beta Ray Bill.
Would be nice to get back to a more serious tone like Kenneth Branagh.
