When Marvel Studios finally announced that a Thunderbolts movie is on the way, fans were thrilled by the news. Unfortunately, the roster of characters chosen have proven to be a tad divisive (and, dare we saw it, underwhelming).
With a team consisting of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster, they're mostly Super Soldiers, meaning the group lacks variety and many of the heroes/villains who feature in the Thunderbolts comic books. As a result, the movie now feels a lot like a sequel to Black Widow and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier!
That may or may not be a bad thing, but there was more disappointment back in January when a rumour started doing the rounds suggesting Hannah John-Kamen's Ghost had been cut.
Everything from scheduling issues to script changes were said to be to blame for the fact Ghost had been axed from the movie, but we can now put that rumour to bed once and for all.
During a recent interview with ExtraTV, the Ant-Man and The Wasp star made it clear she will be part of Thunderbolts.
"Oh, I'm definitely in it. 1000%," John-Kamen stated. "That's all I can say [Laughs]. I am definitely in it and so excited to be part of Thunderbolts. My fellow cast members, when we got announced at [D23], I had to pinch myself. Let the fun play on!"
We're definitely excited to catch up with Ava Starr after such a lengthy absence from the MCU and can't help but wonder how she got her powers under control after the entire Ant-Man family vanished. She promises to be a valuable addition to this team, anyway, and could be someone who unexpectedly helps turn the tide against The Sentry.
Thunderbolts' confirmed cast members include Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Steven Yeun in a mystery role.
Written by Eric Pearson and directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts is set to be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
