Preacher began as an acclaimed Vertigo comic book and saw new life as a hit AMC series. Many tried to bring the demented tale of Jesse Custer into the screen, but failed until the series got made into a show by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg. Cool thing is that they revealed that they had talks with A-List actor James Franco for the lead part in the AMC series.
Executive Producer Evan Goldberg said "
We had a nice conversation with James Franco at one point. He looks very Jesse-ish. He was into it but just literally he has to make 4,000 things in 20 different formats. It would take up his time and he wouldn't be able to do a Tori Spelling movie or whatever the hell he was going to do". Dominic Cooper has nailed his part as Custer, i must admit, Franco would have been a solid fit for Jesse. What do yout think? Share your thoughts below.
Fulfilling a promise to his deceased father, one-time outlaw Jesse Custer returns home to West Texas to take over his dad's church. Jesse's mission, however, becomes twisted when his body is overcome by a cryptic force that unleashes within him a highly unconventional power. Together with hell-raising ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vagabond Cassidy, the preacher-in-training embarks on a journey to find God in a world inhabited by holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters. The darkly comedic "Preacher" is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's popular 1990s comic book franchise of the same name. Executive producers include Sam Catlin ("Breaking Bad"), and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad," "Neighbors").
