THE WALKING DEAD Left Fans Reeling Last Night After A Horrific Swerve - Major SPOILERS

If you've read the comics, you may have thought you knew what was coming towards the end of last night's penultimate season 9 episode of The Walking Dead, but you'd have been wrong! Major spoilers ahead...

Fans of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic series rightfully predicted that Alpha was going to take out several main characters during last night's episode of the AMC series, but if they thought the show would follow the comics when it came to who ended up losing their heads, they would have been way off.

As the episode progressed, flashbacks to what was going on at The Fair appeared to drop some hints as to which characters would ultimately suffer Alpha's wrath, and while Ezekiel and Rosita seemed like strong candidates at one point, this turned out to be a swerve.

Viewers were spared witnessing The King and a pregnant Rosita ending up as zombified heads on pikes, but they were replaced with Highwaymen Ozzy, Alec and DJ; Frankie; Tammy; Addy and Rodney; as well as more prominent players Enid; Tara; and, perhaps most surprisingly, Henry.

It looked like Ezekiel and Carol's adopted son was going to take Carl's place in the inevitable "Whisperer War" storyline, but the showrunners obviously had other ideas.

Tell us, were you shocked by the events of last night's penultimate season 9 episode of The Walking Dead, or did you see what was coming? Drop us a comment down below, and check out a promo for the season finale, "The Storm."

Love love love this season but I felt the event was much more impactful in the comics due to those involved, especially rosita

@CreepyCavill47 - Same here, but I am glad they didn't kill a pregnant woman and I really like Ezekiel so... yeah. I will miss Tara, who was a very strong character.

@RorMachine - so many of the characters and storylines are so different than the source material especially the relationships so i wouldnt be surprised if the end of this story plays out much differently than it did in the comics

@RorMachine - I actually hated the Henry character because they made him so dumb and I know Carol wouldn't have raised him like that so I did not mind his head on a pike

I thought Tara would break me up, since I loved her character, but since they made her all hard and cynical and the exact opposite of her character this season (suppose you can call it growth but whatever), I found I didn’t feel it at all. She’d become unlikeable. But Enid! I didn’t realise how much I liked her until they killed her. Nobody that pretty should have their head all zombied. Aint right.

Realizing that I don't know any of the characters who died makes me realize for how long I've stopped watching the show.

@Kyos - I thought that exact same thing. Nicely said.

I finally stopped watching 5 episodes ago and I'm glad. Don't care for any of these characters and I don't count them as big deaths. Rick was a big death and he didn't even die. The fact I'm commenting means I still care but hopefully soon I won't even miss it.

@MarvelousMarty -

Nobody ever said Rick was going to die. They said Andrew Lincoln was leaving the show and they
advertised a count down until Rick Grimes last episode. People just assumed he was going to die.

Personally, I believed that Lincoln would take a break of some kind and return to the show after spending
some quality time with his family.

As is, Michonne is leaving next season and I bet she is reunited with Rick in the Walking Dead T.V. films.

I haven't been able to watch the last couple episodes, but it seems like they are doing the best with what they have now that Rick of the show.

Interesting that most comments on here reflect mine; I stopped watching this show long ago. Turned into to the Rick "dead" episode only to find out that was a lie and after the fast forward to a 9 year old girl shooting zombies with a bow I vomited in my mouth, then turned it off again. Probably forever.

But it sounds like it's still got some legs and they are doing their best to make it interesting. So good for them; but not for me haha.

If we had seen more of Tara and Enid of late maybe it would have been more impactful. They've been moved to the back burner all season that I was just kinda like "eh" when I saw their heads. Henry I was happy. Was so sick of him.

Seems like only Daryl is safe Michonne and Maggie are leaving next season if they haven't left already I couldn't watch after my boy Rick left

Look forward to the movies but am sad they got rid of so many characters that were the heart of the show. It's worse than Eric leaving That 70s show or Michael leaving the Office.

@0bstreperous - Maggie is already gone, she off playing spy on a new show. They left her alive on walking dead though, she went off with the baby...

Damn! They killed my girl Tara? That sucks. Liked Enid too. Ah well. Sounds like the season's been solid, going by comments on here.

I was expecting to see Ezekial and Rosita head. Funny thing is Tammy is the only one that head was on the spike in the comics as well as the show. The big shockers were Enid, Tara, and Henry,we barely knew the others. I thought Henry was indeed our Carl for this story, but oh well...Guess Enid can be with Carl now. I think this show is on its last leg, they are trying but with so many major players gone or leaving its just not the same and they have now strayed so for from the comics we now know we wont get some of the future stories or we will get them with entirily different people...
