THE WALKING DEAD Renewed For A Sixth Season

Days away from its season five premiere, AMC announced today that it has renewed “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last two years and most highly-rated show in cable television history, for a sixth season. The season five premiere is this Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the live season premiere of “Talking Dead” at 10 p.m. ET/PT with host Chris Hardwick and this week’s guests Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero and Conan O’Brien.

“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

Social media activity and interest around “The Walking Dead” is up significantly from the same period a year ago. For several weeks leading up to the season five premiere, the show has been #1 in digital engagement of all returning fall cable series, as measured by the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating. The show’s social media following and fan engagement are at an all-time high with more than 30 million Facebook fans and 2.7 million Twitter followers, while video views of scenes and trailers for the upcoming season are well outpacing last year’s results.

For season six, Scott M. Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner and executive producer along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse. AMC also recently announced that it has ordered a pilot for a potential companion series to “The Walking Dead,” based on a new story and new characters from Robert Kirkman.

Around the world, “The Walking Dead” will again be “First on FOX,” with FOX International Channels (FIC) bringing the show to audiences globally within 24 hours after the U.S. launch. Season 5 premieres on October 13 in all of its 125+ markets as part of FIC's continued commitment to broadcast the series day-and-date internationally. Following the U.S. trend, “The Walking Dead” continues to break records overseas and has more than tripled its numbers on FOX since its launch.

I was going to start watching this show but then everyone on here said it went downhill after the first few seasons.

@Blackandyellow

It's still an amazing show. I actually think it has gotten better in recent years...acting wise...

I'm not sure about comic accuracy since I haven't read the comics

They always announce it in episode 2-3. They must be even more confident this time.

If Gus thinks it's the best show on TV then it must really be garbage, considering his taste in women.

Since the president of AMC said The Walking Dead could keep going forever (recasting characters and introducing new ones) does that make it General Hospital with zombies?

I'm not sure if it's the same here but in other sites almost everybody that says the show has getting worse is because they don't read the comics and they expect to see walkers all the time, others even want them to create a cure (like they were scientists or something).
Season 2 for example, everyone says that it needed more walkers but they were in a SAFE place, why would be walkers in there, every conflict was from inside the group

I honestly have lost all hype for this show, but since ive watched it all so far, ill stick with it.

Once they finally adapt Negan it should start getting really interesting again, until then itll likely feel like more wandering around in the woods for entire seasons

A [frick]ing lie... They're just mad because it doesn't have a climax every episode like Arrow. It's a good slow burn show with tons of character development. If your into that I been watching this show religiously after discovering it on Netflix. Season 1/ Pilot episode one of the greatest shits I've ever seen in my life though ...real shit.

I stopped watching after the season 3 finale. It is my issue alone, but I could not separate it from the comics. It was too similar, while at the same time being too different. I would love to see how they lead up to, as well as handle the current arc in the comics, though.

@blackandyellow TWD is the best show currently on TV. Though for most of last season I was more excited for the next episode every week of Arrow. But that does not take anything away from how good TWD is cause I was more excited for Arrow every week than any show out there just because I wanted to see what would happen next.

I loved the first two seasons. Season 3 was boring at times but I still liked it. Then came S4. . .

Awesome show. I don't understand how so many bandwagon jumpers suddenly jumped off the bandwagon, seems like people are impossible to please anymore. Either way, can't wait.

This getting renewed for a sixth season is as surprising as a new franchise getting a gritty reboot.

Not sure how a show that constantly changes showrunners and writers every other season could possibly be one of the best on TV right now. The zombie practical effects are second to none, the acting is good, and some of the characters are pretty iconic, deservedly so.

But everything else (from the inconsistent writing of the characters, to the made-up-as-they-go-along stories of each season, to the lack of an overarching plot of the show) is pretty lacking IMO. I still watch it out of a morbid sense of obligation haha, but season 1 was easily the best season of the entire show, and it's gone downhill ever since. And it has nothing to do with not enough walkers or anything like that.

It's entertaining to some extent, but nowhere near the levels of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Lost, or any of the other true high-quality shows in recent memory.

True Detective, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones. The Walking Dead. That's it for me lol.
I also enjoyed The Sopranos back in the day but never got into The Wire because people wouldn't shut up about it.

The problem with the show is that the majority of the show is filler. It takes a ridiculous amount of episodes for anything meaningful to happen. Everything is dragged out. Season 2 wasted 10-11 episodes on a boring farm where barely anything happened until Rick killed off Shane in the penultimate episode. Prior to that it's just Rick and Shane bickering over and over again. They should have been out of the farm by the mid-season finale.

They did it again in season 3, the Woodbury/Governor storyline was dragged out for 16 episodes. They had to waste three episodes of season four to conclude it. It should have been wrapped up by the mid-point of season 3.

It's just filler, filler, filler and more filler.

in my opinon its the best show on TV, it takes shots and chances other shows dont have the balls to take besides maybe game of thrones. and its also very character driven and well ploted out. it follows the comics sorta as guidelines but still does its own thing which i like bc i can enjoy both comic and show and still being surprised
