Apparently The LUCIFER Pilot Has Been Greenlit At Fox

The character of Lucifer was first introduced in the pages of Neil Gaiman's Sandman, and last year we heard that Fox had commissioned a pilot for a series based on his Vertigo spin-off series.

It looks like the latest in a (very) long line of TV shows based on DC characters will be Lucifer. It was previously reported that Fox had given the show a pilot commitment with Californication creator and executive producer Tom Kapinos heading up development, and now Bleeding Cool reckon they've been given the go ahead. Lucifer was a spin-off from Neil Gaiman's Sandman, which saw the ruler of Hell grow tired with his infernal responsibilities and relocate to LA where he opened an exclusive piano bar called Lux. With this and the likes Supergirl, Titans and Krypton set to join The Flash, Arrow, Constantine and Gotham (also Fox, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a crossover!), DC seem poised to takeover our TV screens. Lucifer is described as "a slice-of-life drama in, out of Hell and into Los Angeles".

If this is followed as closely as Constantine it will make it 10 episodes. I never liked the Lucifer comics, they seemed sort of self indulgent. Hellblazer is probably one of the best comics for the last 15 years and for that show to fail as good as it is means that people want superheroes with costumes not well written and interesting dark horror from their CBtv

DC's got a great lineup of tv shows coming out. The only one I'm not really excited about is SuperGirl. I think she needs movie love.

Marvel has Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter on ABC. Daredevil, Aka Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist on Netflix. So I'm not sure yet who is taking over since it's pretty neck in neck.

Hmmmm. He's holding a martini in the banner image. I assume it's a gin martini. My drink of choice!! Though, Lucifer apparently doesn't like his dirty, as there is only one olive in there. Kind of surprising.

Anyway, I'd be up for the role if that means free martinis. Those things are expensive! I'm currently available, sitting at my corporate desk job waiting to be plucked out of obscurity and placed in a high profile role with absolutely no effort or credentials on my part. Cheers!

@fettastic - I guess it's safe to assume you aren't familiar with the character. Lucifer is only one if not the most powerful character in comics on both sides. He makes Anti-Moniter look like a [frick]ing joke.

If it's not connected to Constantine or the Sandman film, what's the point? Why isn't this on NBC? There's nob point in connecting it to Gotham either.

@fettastic - Considering how you don't know a damn thing about the character yet still comment like a little botch about how he isn't interesting. I find it rich you saying I don't know what the [frick] I'm talking about. Especially when you just compared Gaiman's Lucifer to Byrnes Devil in End of Days. Sit down in the kiddy table and read and learn while adults speak.

@Real Intruder:

Your accounting is way off.

First off, the number of shows that are in the air at this precise moment are far from "neck & neck".

DC:

Arrow
Flash
Gotham
Constantine

That's a total of 4.

Marvel:

AOS
Agent Carter

That's actually a total of 1.5, since carter isn't a full show, more like a maxi-series, not a full show. But if you wanna Roy d it up to 2 shows, that's fine, but it still puts DC in the lead.

Now, if you wanna talk about the show that are upcoming, this is what you have:

Marvel:

AOS
Agent Carter
DD
JJ
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
Defenders

That's a total of 6.5 or 7 depending on how you look at it. But even then, these shows consist of 13 eps as well, & they will each be released once a year.

Meanwhile, DC will have:

Arrow
Flash
Gotham
Constantine
I-Zombie
Supergirl
Titans
Krypton
Lucifer
Preacher
Scalped
Ronin

And that's not even counting the Archie TV show, which will be produced by WB for Fox, or the rumored Arrow/Flash spin-off (Atom?)

So in the next 2-3 years, DC will have more than doubled Marvel's TV content.

Also, while Lucifer is indeed pretty powerful, he's not by far the most powerful.

There are easily a dozen other characters in DC that rank up there with him.
SAMURAI36
SAMURAI36 - 2/4/2015, 2:34 PM
And oh yeah, I forgot about the DMZ show as well.

While I can admit that Marvel is ahead of the game when it comes to movies, people need to start admitting that DC is ahead when it comes to.... Well, just about everything else.

Or at least TV,animation, video games, etc.
TheRealIntruder
TheRealIntruder - 2/4/2015, 2:42 PM
@SAMURAI

The only character more powerful than Lucifer is God itself and The Great Beast. Michael is the yin to his yang so not more powerful but on equal footing. Right up there is maybe The Spectre.

I half this shows you mentioned by DC are either going to be cancelled(Constantine & Gotham) or not even last past a pilot(Supergirl, Krypton, I-Zombie, Scalped, Ronin)
SAMURAI36
SAMURAI36 - 2/4/2015, 4:38 PM
@Intruder:

-The Endless
-The Specter
-The Anti-Monitor

That's almost a dozen right there.

And you are moving the goalposts when it comes to the TV shows. Gotham just got renewed for a 2nd season, so how is it getting cancelled?

Super girl just got cleared for an entire series, so how is it only getting a pilot?

You don't know what you're talking about, & the fact remains, DC is still WAY ahead when it comes to TV content.
TheRealIntruder
TheRealIntruder - 2/4/2015, 4:59 PM
The Anti-Monitor isn't even the most powerful Monitor and Lucifer is Far above the Monitors so you are the one I'm afraid who doesn't know what he is talking about.

Supergirl isn't cleared for a whole season. You don't seem to understand how TV networks work. If the ratings are bad enough they will drop it mid-season and play some reruns that will gather more ratings. If you think Supergirl is a good idea you must be smoking crank.
SAMURAI36
SAMURAI36 - 2/4/2015, 5:57 PM
I love how you are trying to reflect the point, to cover up how you put your foot in your mouth.

You said Marvel & DC are "neck & neck" as far as how many shows they have on currently, or even how many they will have. You were wrong, & talking about whether Supergirl will get cancelled or not does not change that fact.

I'm not gonna square dance with you over your opinions about shows that you don't like, or are trying to predict will get cancelled. Save your opinions for someone who is gullible enough to believe them.

I was just correcting you on the BS that you said earlier. End of story.
