According to THR, 19-year-old Nickelodeon actress Brec Bassinger has signed on the play the lead role of Courtney Whitmore in the upcoming DC Universe superhero drama series, which focuses on a high-school sophomore who unites "an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past."

"There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl," said creator and showrunner Geoff Johns. "And after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.”

Bassinger is best known for her role in Nickelodeon comedy Bella and the Bulldogs, but she has also appeared in All Night, The Haunted Hathaways, School of Rock, The Goldbergs and Code Black.

My sister used to watch this sometimes and I remember her, as the lead, being the weakest actor.
But I won’t hold a Nickelodeon show against her, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt

Pretty excited because this is easily going to be Johns' baby that he will be very careful with. Not totally worried about the tone at all.

Just curious where exactly it falls in the continuity of their DC Universe, well, universe. Unrelated to Titans and Doom Patrol and standalone like Swamp Thing? Plus seeing Greg Berlanti attached too makes me wonder if it could be some kind of pre-origin story for the JSA.

Maybe more of a stand-alone. Not against it.
