According to THR, 19-year-old Nickelodeon actress Brec Bassinger has signed on the play the lead role of Courtney Whitmore in the upcoming DC Universe superhero drama series, which focuses on a high-school sophomore who unites "an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past."

"There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl," said creator and showrunner Geoff Johns. "And after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.”

Bassinger is best known for her role in Nickelodeon comedy Bella and the Bulldogs, but she has also appeared in All Night, The Haunted Hathaways, School of Rock, The Goldbergs and Code Black.
