HBO Max Passed On GREEN ARROW AND THE CANARIES; Season 2 Of SWAMP-THING Definitely Not Happening

The CW recently passed on Green Arrow and the Canaries, but those of you hoping it might find new life on HBO Max will be disappointed. It also appears the door is closed on Swamp-Thing continuing...

Moving forward, Warner Bros. is making HBO Max a priority for DC content, with every upcoming movie's spinoff potential considered by the studio. That's why we're getting Peacemaker and "Gotham Central," small screen stories that spin out of The Suicide Squad and The Batman

The DC TV shows on HBO Max won't only be set in the DC Extended Universe, though, hence why many Arrow fans have been holding out hope that Green Arrow and the Canaries might end up there. The CW recently passed on the spinoff series, but it turns out the streamer isn't interested, either.

"The HBO Max option was already thoroughly explored, I hear, especially as leadership shifted over there," reveals TV Line"and that is why the final 'cancellation' decision took as long as it did. No dice."

It's possible the characters could appear elsewhere in The CWVerse, but the door has clearly been closed on this trio of female heroes starring in their own series.

After originally airing on the DC Universe app, Swamp-Thing's first season has found a home on The CW. It's received a great response there, but any hopes of the network reviving it for a second batch of episodes after its cancellation have been dashed in the same article.

"Considering how quickly DCU pulled the plug, and then factoring in that the sets are long gone and any cast contracts are quite expired, sources tell me that all signs point to a Season 2 not happening, anywhere," the site confirms, closing the door on the show having a future.

So, not a positive update, but we've managed to clear up the future (or lack thereof) of both series.

Given how easily CW greenlits things, Green Arrow and the Canaries must have been indeed a really bad concept.

@Urubrodi - Could have worked, im sure people originally thought Batman Beyond was a bad idea before it came out. seems like this would have just been Arrow Beyond

@dracula - on paper, a teenagr Batman is a very bad idea lol it sounds so lame. But Timm, Burnett, and co. really pulled it off beautifully

@Urubrodi - cast contracts must have been expensive. Since it would have essentially been an eight season to Arrow the contracts of returning cast members would have been upped, not rewritten.

Usually actors start with little pay on new shows

@Dredd97 - yeah they did, hell they didnt even want to do it.

Really not surprised on either

Would have been nice to have a continuation of Arrow, but lets face it there are other projects in the work with a better chance of success. Plus With Stargirl and Superman and Lois happening on CW, they are packed. plus more potential project. Just doesn't make sense to put an Arrow spin off on HBOMax.

Did anyone really think CW would bring back Swamp Thing, the show that was cancelled on a streaming service because of the high production cost. Either CW wouldn't have been able to do it or bringing it back wouldn't have been worth it because of such a lower production budget.

@dracula - I'm not quite sure at times, Stargirl for example is keeping the same budget according to Geoff Johns and not moving from Atlanta (where they shot the 1st Season) to Vancouver. And they are keeping intact the writers as well. I've noticed that as well the shows that shoot in Atlanta end up looking very differently. (Black Lightning)

What doesn't make sense is that HBOX Max is making reboots and revivals of shows such as Gossip Girl and Sex and the City and picking up Titans but not Swamp Thing.

Well thats sucks, for Swamp Thing.. I gave up on CW shows around season 3 or 4 of flash. The best comparison would be like those NCIS shows, sure they have different names but at the end of the day they're all essentially the same show with the same story beats. Hipster doofus kale eating generic ass shows written by squirrels

No real surprise...but a cryin shame none the less. Was a cool cool show. Wonder if we'll get the same Derek "Swamp Thing" Mears in the new JL Dark series...if it still goes ahead

Ok I get that...it looked weak CW-sauce.

>Season 2 Of SWAMP-THING Definitely Not Happening

This is pure bullshit. That show was awesome and could have become something great.

A shame about Swamp Thing. That really was a good show that begged for a second season.

Dammit, Swamp Thing along side Doom Patrol was my favorite content coming out of DC. I understand why it was cancelled originally, it sucked but oh well, but if it had a chance at a second life, I honestly don't see why HBOmax would pass on it.

It sucks for the Arrow spin-off. But there are options to adress it's loose ends within the Arrowverse's fellow shows. The Flash treats time travel more delicately for the last years so Legends would be the right place to explore the cliffhanger.

The real shame is Swamp Thing. HBO Max has no trouble picking up the most divisive and former DC Universe show of Titans up and reviving and rebooting past shows such as Sex and the City plus Gossip Girl, but they leave Swamp Thing behind as if it was nothing.

It's really mindblogging. A supernatural show such as that would've filled nicely the void left in The CW by Supernatural.

Warner Bros and HBO MAX don't respect fans they are assholes. Monstro do Pantano season two was must, fantastic series. I'll never subscribe to this [frick]ing channel.
