The Strain has been picked up to series on the FX for 13 episodes beginning July 2014. The vampire drams focuses on a parasitic, vampire virus that begins in New York and poises a threat to the entire world. Guillermo del Toro originally envisioned the The Strain as a tv series but he was unable to find a buyer and his agent suggested that he partner with Chuck Hogan and turn the story into a novel. Four years later, del Toro's original vision for the property is set to come to life. David Lapham and artist Mike Huddleston have turned The Strain into a comic book series for Dark Horse which is currently ongoing. Carlton Cuse (Loset, Bates Motel) will serve as an executive producer alongside del Toro and Hogan.

Said del Toro, “The Strain books are near and dear to my heart and now, Chuck and I have the blessing of a partnership with Carlton and FX that holds great promise. Working with FX has yielded an amazing experience with total creative freedom and support."

The cast includes Sean Astin (The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King), John Hurt (V for Vendetta, Snowpiercer), Kevin Durand (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Robert Maillet (Pacific Rim, 300) and Leslie Hope (24, Revolution).

Guillermo del Toro crafty a pretty good vampire tell in 2002's Blade II so I'm curious to see how The Strain turns out. Will you be tuning in or are you feeling vampire fatigue?

Any Del Toro project is a good one. Now please give him his Hulk television series. Or Dark Justice. Preferably both.

As long as it doesn't push back Justice League Dark, go for it.

Sounds like a sausage fest...

Hot Dogs

Not a bad comic series, took awhile to differentiate itself. The old world history of the vampires was cool.

Del Toro is a hack. Walking Dead with vampires sounds pretty lame.

At The Mountains of Madness has been stuck in development hell for a very long time.

I would love for it to happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have read the first two in the series and really enjoyed the books. Even got the first on in hardcover signed by Del Toro and Hogan when I worked at Barnes & Noble. I read the advance copy and sent in a review and they sent me a signed hc.

I really enjoyed the books because they brought the vampires I read as a kid. None of this can walk in the day and sparkle crap. The books were reminded me of the horror books I read as a kid.

I look forward to see the show.

For you illiterates who've never read a book without pictures, I can assure you this will much more like Walking Dead than Twilight or Underworld or even Dracula. There's nothing romantic about these bloodsuckers. They're actually very zombie-like, but with a hive mind controlled by their Master.

This should be an excellent tv series. FX has been putting out some great tv shows. So the Strain will be another great one. Plus the cast is great too. So I can't wait to see this tv series next year.

Now I want to know what is going on with Guillermo's movie Justice League Dark and his video game InSane.

I'm interested in checking this out. I would also like to see At the Mountains of Madness if it's handled right. My fear is it would end up with a plot line too much like the Martian Chronicles, The Thing or even some overly narrated, spoon fed scifi where it ends up losing the individuality and brilliance of a story with incredible fictional foresight for when it was originally written.

Vampires that aren't pretty boy pansies that the ladies swoon over would be awesome.
