Hayley Atwell Doesn't Believe We've Seen The Last Of AGENT CARTER In The MCU

While Marvel's Agent Carter won't be returning for a third season, Hayley Atwell is confident that there is far more in store for her character in the future. Could a movie be in the works?

While she started out as a love interest in the first Captain America film, Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter has grown into a much-loved and well-respected character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With multiple appearances in MCU films, Atwell went on to headline her own series, Agent Carter, which focused on the adventures of the character in the years after World War II. Unfortunately, the show was recently cancelled, despite a cliffhanger ending for season 2. Fans petitioned for a third season, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards, at least for the time being.

Speaking on a Television Critics Association panel for her upcoming fall show, Conviction, Atwell reiterated that she would find a way manage both series if ABC would allow her to. “I think they would have figured something out in terms of making a special or waiting until we finish this season and then me doing something else with another network perhaps,” Atwell said. “All I’m saying with that is it’s still a much-loved show for the people involved in the making of it and we know that the fans, it has a special place in their hearts. That’s something that I would be very happy to go back to if the opportunity came.”

Despite the show's cancellation, Atwell has been rather insistent with the Marvel higher-ups to continue with the adventures of Peggy, going so far as to suggest that they give the character a movie. “I’d love there to be,” she said. “I hound [Marvel Studios co-president] Louis D’Esposito on a regular basis saying, ‘Give me a movie.’ The great thing about Peggy is we know from The Winter Soldier that she lives a long life, so she can come back. I’m banking on when I’m in my 50s, let’s see what Peggy’s up to in this decade.”

Atwell clearly has a love for the character that's rare for actors, and remains insistent that we will see the character make another appearance, though she doesn't know when and where. “I don’t feel like I’ve said goodbye to her because she does still seem to live on a lot for a lot of the fans. Marvel is still such a big part of my career and I suppose my professional family that I would absolutely not rule out the idea of going back to Peggy at some point or seeing her in other avenues. I love her and I hope that she has a life elsewhere another time.”

I really enjoyed this show and looked forward to each episode, better than AOS for which I didn't finish season 3.

At least the show had some kind of conclusion, and looking forward to seeing Hayley Atwell in more shows.

Also as I love that 1940's pin up style on women, as it looks elegant and sexy this show was a dream for me.

Actually, I think her character would be great for a small, low-budget (15 - 20 million $-budget) movie. She is interesting enough to take that little risk, I think. Atwell is a lovely actress, so I think she deserves a chance.

@Unites - I kind of agree but at the same timeI feel like maybe a TV-movie or a 2-3 episode mini-series would suit the scope of the character better. I seriously doubt a 15-20 mil. movie for wide theater release would make it's budget back...

Atwell's love for Peggy surpasses quite a few actors in terms of their respective MCU characters. She seems incredibly genuine and loving regarding the role, it's so great to see. Peggy = amazing.

Her passion is admirable. While I still haven't gotten the chance to check out Agent Carter S2, I'd love to see more of her. She is interesting, and seeing an arc lead to her eventual state in The Winter Soldier, it'd be tragic but could be really well written.

But to be fair, doing an arc where she ends up being the way she is in TWS may not be ideal for Marvel Studios from a filmmaking perspective. I feel like the Marvel movies focus on the big characters and the events that surround them, whereas the tv side is a deeper analysis of lesser known characters.

I'd love to see 2-3 more seasons of Agent Carter pop up on Netflix, but alas, it's extremely unlikely.

Honestly screw everything, I just want Luke Cage now.

Luke Cage will be amazing, you can count on that. Netflix Marvel delivers, BIG TIME.

The Marvel universe is simply amazing with movie characters to tv and tv to movies and movies to Netflix....WB/Dc has a long road ahead of them in competing with their success...there is no room for any missed opportunities like SS!!!The fans patience is wearing very thin....

I really would love to see Agent Carter with a proper conclusion. I liked season 2 but they really dropped the ball with it. They went into it like they were guaranteed another season and had a plot that was just okay. They completely missed the opportunity with the founding of SHIELD or something interesting and relevant to the time period with characters like Angel (Thomas Halloway), Electro (Robot), Flexo (Robot) Phantom Reporter (Richard Jones), etc. Hell they could have done a full a new Captain America has appeared arch where they used the crazy Captain America and Bucky or Jeff Mace. They could have done their own version of Invaders and turned Peggy into Union Jack and got the Destroyer and Human Torch in a secret society Avengers esk team.

The potential was there and instead they chose to do Madame Masque who wasn't even really Madame Masque and Invisible Man. Though I can appreciate the obscure pull with Invisible Man the plot wasn't all that intriguing outside of the racial tension/taboo of the time period.

Doctor Strange better use that Time Stone to pull her fine ass outta the 40's and transport her into the modern day, before slowly yet passionately making love to her in the Sanctum Sanctorum in front of Wong.

She was pretty g in the movies. Didn't care for her show though, first few eps didn't grab me.

ABC just needs to hurry up and cancel AOS.

@TheFro -

"ABC just needs to hurry up and cancel AOS."

Why? If you don't like it don't watch it.
TheFro
TheFro - 8/5/2016, 7:15 AM
@FearTheLiving - I don't. Stopped watching some eps short of the S3 finale, the show just doesn't have the same drive as other shows to bring me back. I felt as if I was only watching it out of habit coz its Marvel.

They should replace it with something else that is actually worthwhile. Green light the Superior Foes of Spider-man or the Runaways, anything that's fresh. AOS has run it's lifespan after 4 seasons, give em a good send off.

@TheFro - Personally the characters in the show draw me in more than anything else, the shows seems to know how to develop every character in a different way.
Plus I love how each season feels different

@TheFro - They don't need to cancel AOS to create more shows.

Personally I really like AOS, it's my favorite network comic book show. I mean there are a handful I don't enjoy like Legends of Tomorrow or Gotham but I wouldn't say cancel it just because I don't like it. It has its fans.

What I there was an episode or two of AOS where the team got sent back to the forties and met with Peggy
Or a TV/Netflix movie that concluded the Show

I'm thinking that maybe...

Maybe they do kill Cap, in Infinity War, but that they also get to have their cake and eat it, by giving him a happy ending, thanks to the Infinity Gauntlet.

Maybe he uses the reality and time gems to travel back to the '40s to be with Carter and finally have that dance.

Imagine it.

I hate loose ends, so I hope some how they finish her post-WW2 story. Maybe flashbacks in AOS.
