Jessica Jones Rumored To Have Been Replaced With Jon Bernthal's Punisher In DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN

Krysten Ritter was recently rumored to be returning to the MCU, but a new rumor claims that her role on Daredevil: Born Again has been given to another Marvel hero following scheduling conflicts.

Matt Murdock is now firmly in the MCU, with roles in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo, and his own series in Daredevil: Born Again. However, a recent rumor suggested he would not be the only crimefighter from Netflix's Marvel universe to be brought into the MCU. According to a report from earlier in 2022, Born Again would also bring back Jessica Jones, played once again by actress Krysten Ritter, who portrayed the character in Netflix's Jessica Jones

In July, The Weekly Planet podcast (at the 42:52 mark) stated that Charlie Cox was set to appear in three episodes of Echo, and that the show would feature Murdock looking for the P.I. hero: "Daredevil is also going to be rocking a red-and-black-suit, and he's looking for Jessica Jones. So, they're laying the groundwork to bring back [Krysten] Ritter, most likely. Not necessarily in ['Echo']."

Days later, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Cox's role on the show, stating: "Sources say 'Echo' will include a plotline in which Daredevil, whose alter ego is blind attorney Matt Murdoch, is searching out a former ally."

Jones' story purportedly being tied to Murdock's seemed to hint at her appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. Krysten Ritter was lauded for her performance as the reluctant superhero—whom she last played in season 3 of Jessica Jones—which made her possible return a promising prospect. However, a new rumor states that Ritter's (rumored) role in Born Again will now be filled by Jon Bernthal's Punisher due to a scheduling conflict with the actress (she is set to star in Orphan Black: Echoes for AMC, which she is also executive producing).

Jessica Jones Is Rumored To No Longer Be In Daredevil: Born Again

Insider KC Walsh retweeted a post reporting on a rumor about Alaqua Cox appearing as Echo in Daredevil: Born Again following her standalone series. In response, he wrote: "I know I was in denial about this, but it sounds like another popular character will show up as well due to a scheduling conflict, as it appears they will take the rumored role Jessica Jones had."

When asked what "popular character" would allegedly replace Jones, KC Walsh replied with a gif of Jon Bernthal's Punisher:

Fortunately, if the information is accurate, there is still a possibility for Ritter to return as Jessica Jones in Born Again, even if just for a cameo. KC Walsh also retweeted a post from Tom Smith, the host of a podcast called Cape Time.

Smith claimed that Punisher would indeed fill Jones' part due to the aforementioned scheduling conflict with Ritter—which KC Walsh seemingly stated was due to her involvement with Orphan Black: Echoes—but that there would be a possibility for the actress to cameo on Matt Murdock's series:

"Basically, 'Born Again' is re-introducing the Netflix characters to the mainstream, and they planned to bring in Ritter, but there's a scheduling problem for 'Born Again.' So, they needed another Netflix star to fill the role. It's Jon Bernthal. Wouldn't be shocked if Ritter [cameos, though]."

As for Ritter, she seems to be enthusiastic about the potential of returning to the role. As she told Screen Rant during a 2021 interview:

"I would absolutely just die to play Jessica again. I had the best time doing it and I just love her so much. I'm so proud of that character. Not only because it was like a great role and she's such a bad-ass, but that character has really resonated with people in a way that I don't know who else has. Really, really resonated with women and girls, trauma survivors. It's just so, so big and such a thing I'm so grateful to have been a part of. So, if there's ever an opportunity for me to put on those boots, I will be there in a flash."

Of course, it's important to take this information with a grain of salt, and audiences should wait for more information regarding Born Again's character roster as its development ramps up.

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be released on Disney+ in Spring 2024.

We can't have Jessica Jones in the mcu. It'll show the marvel audience what a REAL strong female character is like.

bkmeijer1 - 9/20/2022, 8:08 AM
@Origame - and that's a problem?
Origame

@bkmeijer1 - it's a joke about how marvel forgot to write strong female characters.

@bkmeijer1 -

Are you really that surprised? For him, everything Marvel-related is a problem.

...and I can't even read what he's typed 'cause he's blocked me, so imagine that.

@Origame - A Jessica Jones that doesn't swear is like a John Constantine that doesn't smoke.

These are adult characters and will never be adapted well in these overly censored times.

@Origame - has to be sexism, still.

Its not that punisher is a more popular character, sexism that has to be it.

@DrReedRichards - I'm not surprised. But still, I like to ask in the hope of a surprising answer

@ObserverIO - I mean, the alternative is apparently punisher.
Origame
Origame - 9/20/2022, 11:32 AM
@coderaven - yup exactly.

And this is coming from someone who would rather see Jessica Jones over punisher in the new daredevil series.

@bkmeijer1 - ...I mean, I was technically praising marvel there by acknowledging a great character they made.

But then again, Drreedrichards is the same guy who got into a tantrum because I said I preferred wonder woman to infinity war because I "needed to acknowledge infinity war being objectively better".
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/20/2022, 11:49 AM
@Origame - who actually was responsible for Jessica Jones, Marvel TV or Netflix?

I think IW is better too, but that's just personal preference. Don't know who is better between Jessica Jones and Wonder Woman though.
Origame
Origame - 9/20/2022, 11:56 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I mean, Netflix was. But it's not like feige was out of the loop. It was tied to the mcu at the time.

And yeah. What does that even mean to be objectively better? Even with something highly regarded as bad like morbius. What about it makes it objectively worse than the godfather? It's art. That's not how art works.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/20/2022, 3:46 PM
@Origame - Disney+ putting the Netflix shows in their own section does make me think Feige/Marvel is embracing it more than I thought.

I guess if you can find quantifiable ways to measure it, but even then choosing those methods comes down to a choice (hence, still subjective)

@ObserverIO - Are you already forgetting Disney+ added TV-MA to their platform? And that Jessica Jones, Punisher, etc are all on Disney+ uncensored... So what are you talking about?
Variant
Variant - 9/20/2022, 10:56 PM
@Origame - Why is everything a complaint with you? Why not just say, cool I like Jessica Jones. You've always got to find a way put some negative spin on everything. Smh
Origame
Origame - 9/21/2022, 4:26 AM
@Variant - ...you do realize Jessica Jones isn't appearing in the mcu according to this rumor, right? Maybe if marvel started making good choices this phase I could start saying good things about it.

@Origame - That's beside the point. Of course I know what the article said. But you always focusing on the negative is what we're talking about. Go get some medication or something. How grumpy you are on a constant basis is not normal. Jesus...
Origame
Origame - 9/28/2022, 4:16 AM
@Variant - dude, you're seriously going through all these random articles from days ago to complain about me, a random user on a random fansite. And you think I'm the one who needs medication? Get therapy.
Variant
Variant - 9/29/2022, 5:43 PM
@Origame - I'm literally responding to what's in my inbox. Which is you. So you're clearly also talking to me on "random articles". Which aren't random btw. They're articles about CBMs that I'm interested in. And you seem to always be chiming in with something else you're butt hurt about. How are you not exhausted from all the negativity you spread?
Origame
Origame - 9/29/2022, 6:00 PM
@Variant - dude, if you look on all these threads you came to me in all of them. I'm the one just responding. And I'm also responding within the day as opposed to you who still thinks it's worth commenting after f@#$ing days.

How's about just blocking me if my comments bother you so much?
Variant
Variant - 9/30/2022, 6:29 PM
@Origame - Uh...is there a time limit to this? I have a life and a career. I don't just hover on internet forums everyday.

And nah, not blocking anyone here. I'd rather address the issues.
Origame
Origame - 9/30/2022, 6:36 PM
@Variant - there's no time limit, but for a guy who claims to have a life you sure care enough about a random guy online who said something a week ago.

Also, what issue could I possibly bring to the table that isn't solved instantly by blocking me? You're not gonna change my views (you lost that battle a long time ago), and anyone who also has these problems with me can also block me. I'm not breaking any guidelines or anything, so that's really the only play you got.
Variant
Variant - 9/30/2022, 6:39 PM
@Origame - Lol. I lost no such battle. It's not my intent to change your views. My only intent is to make sure you know the things you say make you look bad. I mean to be so negative so often is miserable. Do you have no self awareness or do you just enjoy being depressing?
Origame
Origame - 9/30/2022, 6:44 PM
@Variant - yeah, really not losing sleep over looking bad to someone like you.

Also, laughing at bs is actually fun for me and has helped me get over some actual depressing moments in my life. Like Jesus, gotta dictate how I relax now.

@ObserverIO -

Though certainly not as big a fan of Danny Rand from this Netflix-verse to the extent of its Matt Murdock or Frank Castle, the MCU's improvement of previously failed portrayals like those of Andrew Garfield or Anson Mount gives me hope.

Also, while I'm flattered as f#ck, I'm no great man.
