Is Jessica Jones about to make her MCU return? While nothing is confirmed, a new Instagram post from Krysten Ritter has left fans convinced we'll see her reprise the role sooner rather than later.
As you can see below, Ritter is rocking some very cool purple hair. In the comics, when Jessica first became a superhero - then known as Jewel - she did so in spandex and with, you guessed it, pink/purple hair.
While the character later grew that out after becoming a P.I., some artists have portrayed her as still having those purple locks. Like Daredevil's expanded power set and colourful costumes, though, this would be a great way to softly reboot the character for Earth-616 after the grounded and gritty Jessica Jones.
Last April, Ritter responded positively when asked if she was open to returning as Jessica. "I have no idea; I hope so! I think that people love Jessica; I know because I live it," she said. "Marvel is so secretive - I am just putting that out there that, of course, I would be there in a second. I would have my boots and jacket ready to rock."
Her return has been made even more likely by Marvel Studios' decision to make its Netflix TV shows (which were produced by Marvel Television) officially part of the MCU's "canon."
We've long heard rumblings about plans for Jessica to return, and while it didn't happen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law or Echo, we'd put money on seeing her again in Daredevil: Born Again (if not in the first half of the series, definitely the second).
Earlier this year, we spoke with Jessica Jones and The Defenders director SJ Clarkson to get her thoughts on these shows being embraced by Marvel Studios.
"Oh, well that's amazing," the filmmaker told us. "I mean, I have to say, it was my introduction into comics was Jessica Jones. I'd read the script but I'd never actually read Alias. I got the big tomb that was Alias and I loved it. I literally read it and thought, 'This is one of the most clever, brilliant, beautiful [pieces of] storytelling I've seen in a long time.'"
"The way that the characters are portrayed, the framing, the use of cinematic angles in a comic book. And the brevity of storytelling in terms of the dialogue. the narration, and actually getting to the point of what somebody says and what a character really thinks and means in that moment...I thought that was really...that really sparked my interest," she continued.
"Of course, I'm so thrilled to hear that they're canon. Jessica, of course, being my first, I'll always have a special place for her."
