Premiere Date And Trippy New Trailer For FX's LEGION TV Series Revealed

FX has released a brand new trailer for X-Men spinoff series Legion, and as well as being packed full of cool new footage, it also reveals when exactly the show will premiere early next year.

FX has announced that Legion will premiere on February 8th, and a new trailer has been released to accompany the news. The series looks pretty bizarre to say the least, and it's not a preview which is exactly packed full of moments which seem to pay homage to the hero's comic book counterpart.

Legion is the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human. It introduces the story of David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. It's a cool premise, but looks a lot different to the X-Men movies.

Created by Fargo’s Noah Hawley, Legion stars Dan Stevens in the title role and has a great ensemble cast made up of Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, and Jean Smart. What do you think of this teaser?

Anyone watching this who was unfamiliar with comics/not keeping up with current entertainment news would have no idea this was X-Men related.

@MattBellissimo - And that is not a bad thing.........if this has comicbook written all over it could alienate some viewership.

@MattBellissimo - Yeah, this feels like a very early attempt at making Comicbook related stuff mainstream.

@MattBellissimo - I totally agree. Its gonna be confusing for some people. They have to tie it to something significant in the films.

The Netflix MCU shows handled this well by having the Battle of NY be the the event that changed the city in varying ways and affect our characters in the process. That's the primary TETHER to the MCU. Legion needs that.

@MattBellissimo - So, I've been up for 38 hours so I'm a little groggy, but I think I figured out something...

Nomis is Dorothy...
JoeMomma is Blanche...
Gusto is Sophia...
...and I'm Rose.

God help me, Matt. I'm Rose...

@MattBellissimo -
I feel the same way about Logan. From that trailer, much of the general audience probably won't realise that it's a Wolverine film.

@MattBellissimo - no thread for this?

@Darkknight2149 - I'd disagree there, only because people have the image of Jackman as Wolverine for over 15 years. It's one of his most well known roles. And you see the claws in the trailer, however briefly.

This trailer literally has no overt connections to the X-Men franchise whatsoever, other than what fans know already.

@AndrewHolland - Not really worth an article, no. But funny to watch, certainly.

@MattBellissimo -
I think Wolverine has an older, scruffier look in Logan than the previous films, though I agree that the brief glimpse of the claws in the trailer and poster will be the tip-off for much of the general audience.

Fun fact: Legion can be the only X-Men character to appear in Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite since Marvel produces the Legion tv show(obviously with FX but they still have power).

@MrFridayNights - seriously? There aren't going to be any Xmen in that game?
MrFridayNights
MrFridayNights - 12/6/2016, 8:49 AM
@Ryguy88 - Yeah because Marvel don't want to promote them anymore since you know the rights issue. So that also means no more X-Men video games man it's so [frick]ing sad.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 12/6/2016, 3:48 PM
@MrFridayNights - yet no hard core fans will admit that Marvel is directly hurting them by not making use of the Xmen when they can just because they don't have the big money making rights to them. What a joke.

This will be a hit or miss for me. The tone is intriguing but I wonder how they're going to connect this to the X-Men films, which already have a muddled continuity.

Idk if Hawley's irreverent black comedic atmosphere works for everything. It seems unique here, but Idk if I buy it entirely.

I wonder where the "comic book" in all of this will shine through. I'm fine with this being some kind of commentary of sanity and psychosis, but I hope its still an X-MEN SHOW.

This particular trailer was absolute dogshit. How is anybody supposed to understand what's going on?
