No spoilers, but King Khan himself gets a special shoutout in the second episode of Ms. Marvel, and while it's just a fun bit of dialogue between Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Kamran (Rish Shah), it did make us wonder whether Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had ever seriously considered bringing Shah Rukh Khan into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since Shah Rukh Khan, the actor, is now canon in the MCU, we asked Feige during the global press conference last Friday, what it would take to bring the actual SRK into the MCU. However, unsurprisingly, he just gave us an all-knowing smile and deferred to the Ms. Marvel cast and directors, who expressed their excitement at the prospect.
Vellani wondered aloud, "Can we afford him?," before episode one and six directors Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah jokingly said, "Well, if he wants to, we'll go shoot again, do reshoots and do some scenes with Shah Rukh Khan."
Co-executive producer and Ms. Marvel co-creator Sana Amanat added, "Shah Rukh, call us! Let's hang out!" while episode three and four director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy offered her services, "I volunteer to direct that!"
Marvel stars Hugh Jackman and Benedict Cumberbatch have both previously voiced their support for Khan to get involved in a Marvel superhero role, but there's seemingly been relatively little interest from his side, although it is some extremely fun fan casting and an easy way to win over Indian fans.
Ms. Marvel starts streaming exclusively on Disney+ on June 8; check out a new extended TV spot below:
In other news, after a lengthy hiatus, Shah Rukh Khan will return with a big bang next year with leading roles in Siddharth Anand's Pathaan (01/25/23), Atlee Kumar's Jawan (06/02/23), and Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki (12/22/23).
He's also slated to make cameo appearances in R. Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (07/01/22), Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha (08/11/22), Ranbir Kapoor's Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva (09/09/22), and Salman Khan's Tiger 3 (04/21/23) - which would give him seven new films in two years after not opening a film since 2018.
Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero megafan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?
