PUNISHER Will Take Over As Leader Of The Hand In New Marvel Comics Series From Jason Aaron

We haven't seen an ongoing Marvel Comics series featuring The Punisher since 2019, but Frank Castle is set to return for a new 13-issue, prestige format limited series from writer Jason Aaron.

It's been a while since we've seen Frank Castle stalk the pages of Marvel Comics, but the ultra-violent vigilante is set to return for a new 13-issue, prestige format limited series next March, and it sounds like writer Jason Aaron has some big changes in store for The Punisher.

Punisher, which will feature artwork from Jesús Saiz and Paul Azaceta, is described as "the definitive culmination of Frank Castle’s journey in the Marvel Universe to date, building on his past to reveal his inescapable future." The story will feature flashbacks to Castle's tortured past, while charting his journey in the present as the new leader of The Hand!

Yes, in a major status quo shift for the character, Castle will serve as "The Beast" of the notorious group of ninja assassins.

“After writing the Punisher over the years, I’ve always been fascinated by the character of Frank Castle. What moments made him the Punisher, even before that fateful day in the park? And how far will he go to win the war that has consumed his life? Spoiler: as far as it damn well takes,” Aaron tells Marvel.com. “This story is the destined next step in the dark and tragic evolution of Frank Castle, from troubled kid to heroic soldier to revenge-driven vigilante…to the duly anointed King of Killers. Believe me when I say, I am as excited about this story as anything I’ve ever written for Marvel.”

Check out a preview of issue #1 and a first look at Castle's new costume below.

Ideas like this are the reason I don't read current comics.

@Shroombeast - And the billions of variant covers and retread cover homages (how many times do we need an homage to ASM 300?).

@JizzerTron - Not to mention the oversaturation of big crossover event comics. Like guys, they're not special if you're putting one out every season.

I’m a little behind on current comics, has this been something in the works for awhile or is it as random as it sounds?

Meh. Wouldn't be the first time a a Marvel hero character took over a criminal organization.

Punisher is like the Reverse Daredevil in that he's almost always thrown into bad story arcs. Hopefully they don't pull a Shadowlands and avoid the demonically possessed nonsense.

RIP in peace edit button.

@Reeds2Much - I saw an article that said Punisher was going to be possessed by The Beast, too.

So yeah...definitely not worth my time reading.

And it looks the beginning of Disney & Kevin Feige changing around The Punisher from what he is an antihero begins, so they can more likely use portrayal in the movie cause they're too cowardly to do a real Punisher movie or show. Even Blade in his new comic series The Darkhold: Blade comes off as a more cartoonish version of the character.

I really love to read the Punisher.
The stories are among the most entertaining ones.
But this?
Totally out of character.

And what’s with the Punisher skull looking like something a racist redneck from the 1990s would wear?

I imagine he will operate similar to Red Hood in Under the Hood. A murdering vigilante who takes over the criminal underworld to wipe out the more vicious bosses and put a cap on the worst organised crimes.
