In a reality where Ultron made The Vision's form his own and tapped into the power of both the Mind Stone and the five other Infinity Stones, "Infinity Ultron" was born. After wiping out all living beings in his universe, this insanely powerful android set his sights on the Multiverse, and that led to an epic clash with The Watcher during the penultimate episode of What If...?
While he'd been an observer up until this point, Uatu proved himself a formidable opponent, donning some impressive battle armour and taking the fight to Ultron through a number of realities.
Ultimately, he was unable to overcome the villain, hence why he enlisted the Guardians of the Multiverse. Now, thanks to Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding, we have a closer look at that armour and the work that went into designing this very unique take on the character.
"[It was] so much fun looking back at [Jack] Kirby designs and incorporating those motifs in his armor," the artist explains in his Instagram post below.
We're very excited for an "Art of" book to be released for What If...? because it's undeniably fascinating to see the sort of work that went into Marvel Studios' first animated TV series. These Variants were all insanely cool, and we're still hoping Jeffrey Wright gets to play a live-action take on The Watcher.
