A little earlier this year, the news broke that What If? will premiere on Disney+ this August, but that report came from Entertainment Weekly and wasn't confirmed by Disney or Marvel Studios.
Well, that's finally changed after a press release was sent out by Disney+ UK. Previewing the streaming service's summer content, it's mentioned that "Marvel Studios' 'What if...?' will premiere in August, followed by the long-awaited final season of iconic post-apocalyptic thriller 'The Walking Dead', which will stream exclusively on Star on Disney+ from 23rd August."
Interestingly, both What If? and Loki are listed as being "S1," so chances are those rumours about both shows getting multiple seasons are correct. Either way, we're now expecting Marvel Studios to share a specific premiere date soon, likely with a trailer accompanying the news.
A synopsis for the show was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."
"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."
Recently, some details emerged on plans for "Party Thor" in What If?, and we're bound to start seeing merchandise for the show that also sheds light on what's to come over the next few weeks. In the meantime, chances are Marvel Studios will look to keep the focus on the premiere of Loki.
