WHAT IF...? Season 3 Rumored To Feature An Appearance From SPIDER-MAN Movie Villain [SPOILER]

A very exciting new rumour for What If...? season 3 is doing the rounds online which suggests the animated series will feature one of Peter Parker's villains from Spider-Man: Far From Home. Check it out!

What If...? season 3 will likely arrive on Disney+ next year and one of the biggest surprises Marvel Studios has in store for us may have been revealed early.

There have been rumblings for a while that a Spider-Man villain is going to appear in the show and, if scooper @CanWeGetToast is to be believed, it will be Quentin Beck, a.k.a. the villainous Mysterio. Unfortunately, as we first explained on Toonado.com, no additional details have been revealed.

When it comes to what role the villain will play in the series, there are plenty of exciting possibilities. We'd assume Spider-Man will factor into the story somehow - the first time he's appeared in the since "What If... Zombies?!" - but seeing as Beck once worked at Stark Industries, it's not outside the realm of possibility What If...? will explore his and Tony's history.

If Marvel Studios wants to be really ambitious, then perhaps we'll get long-overdue confirmation that Mysterio did indeed hail from another reality (how else could he have known the MCU was Earth-616, a moniker given to it by Earth-838's Illuminati?). Then again, we're sure there's plenty of fun to be had with stories that have smaller stakes.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio was seemingly killed during his final battle with the web-slinger and got the last laugh after exposing the wall-crawler's secret identity to the world.

Recently, What If...? director Bryan Andrews weighed in on when the show could return. Marvel Studios has already shared a clip from season 3 but only because it was a near-completed episode cut from season 2; unfortunately, it sounds like we'll be waiting a while before getting to watch it.

"They move stuff around. Every time I thought it was like, 'Oh, it's going to be this!' It's like, 'It's going to move a little bit!'" he explained. "So, even I would hate to say something and have people's hopes come up and then have them be dashed because of the beast of production and when things move around."

"I thought that it could come out at the end of the year in 2024 possibly, but that would be tight."

"There's some other group of people that are masterminding when things [release] and they're moving things on the board, and I don't know where we exist on that at this moment, as well as [Marvel Zombies]," Andrews continued. "Zombies, I'm still working on at the same time, and that's going to be crazy and that's coming out, but that keeps moving around too, right? So I wish I could help you but I can't!"

The first two seasons of What If...? are now streaming on Disney+.

What is this websites line of thinking with Mysterio actually being from an alternate world? The movie clearly shows he was lying.

@Asterisk - to be fair the people behind these movies probably dont know either, a lot of the facts he presented in that movie turned out to be true, our universe really be earth 616 for example

@Asterisk - That multiverse line in Far From Home still bothers me…the fact that they did that having knowing they were going multiverse for the next saga (and make no mistake they knew at that point) but then to walk it back saying it was random and he was lying? So stupid.

What If? Marvel Studios' content went into the toilet and DC/WB became the market leader in CBMs?

Hey... Can y'all help me... I seem to remember concept art coming out I think last year at one of the conventions, and it had like 3 or 4 different concept art lineups of different What If cast... One was like all Zombies with a giant Zombie in the back, another had like Shang Chi and Aqwafina and other random characters in like survival end of the world gear, and another was like maybe one with a team of Thunderbolts characters. I don't really remember who and what, but I remember like 3 or 4 line ups.... Does anyone else remember those?

What happened to that stuff?

These. From SDCC 22.

What happened to these? These looked cool. None of this even happened.

@TheVandalore - Clue to why you haven't seen them yet is bottom right corner at a guess as in Marvel Zombies hasn't been released yet so if all concept art from that then...
TheVandalore
TheVandalore - 1/16/2024, 9:02 AM
@Apophis71 - it's not for Marvel zombies, I have no idea why the site I finally found these images from added that tag, but it's concept art for What If.
TheVandalore
TheVandalore - 1/16/2024, 9:12 AM
@Apophis71 - only one of the images has Zombies. The others are not Zombie related at all. One is a team of lady agents, one is the shange chi and red guardian one, and the other looks like Thor meets Mad Max. None of those images are in the same world, different episodes entirely, that they never made. I don't even think the zombie image is for Marvel Zombies.

This was just the only pic I could find online with the 4 images together. I obviously saw the Marvel Zombies watermark the site added... But I don't remember them releasing these as Marvel Zombies concept art, but as What If... Season 2 concept art.

@Apophis71 - the person that added @BRMARVELNEWS obviously added the Marvel Zombies marker on the bottom corner.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/16/2024, 9:33 AM
@TheVandalore - Fair enough then, was just that Zombies bit made it look like at least half of them would be for that if not all but if just a questionable inclusion of that tag...

...was word that due to where the films etc took things at least a couple of What if's were dropped entirely and we know at least one from series two has been delayed so...

GM1988 - 1/16/2024, 11:59 AM
@TheVandalore - That concept art is all for the Marvel Zombies series not What If, The top corner is the zombies that are going to appear in the series that are Scarlet Witch, Ghost, Hawkeye, Okoye, Abomination, Cap America and Cap Marvel. Beside that with Shang Chi are the survivors in the series being Yelena/Black Widow, Kate/Hawkeye, Shang Chi, Ms Marvel, Death Dealer, Red Guardian, Agent Jimmy Woo and Aqwafina.

The other 2 pica are more survivors that the main group will meet up with that are a group of Black Widows and a Skrull Biker Gang.

Finally, everyone else was getting a look in, in Season 2 and ok, Spidey could have technically only appeared in the 1602 episode...but it would have been good to see him

So Spidey better be back

@dancingmonkey08 - Spider-Man was meant to appear in season 2 according to leaked storyboards on YouTube in an episode titled What If....Surtur attacked Earth (Then again they could be fake).
