In Injustice (which is now available on Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray platforms), Brian T. Delaney takes on the role of Green Lantern. However, that's not the first cosmic character the actor has played this year as he also lent his voice to Peter Quill in the first season of What If...? on Disney+.
That Variant of Star-Lord was never taken from Earth by the Ravagers, but still found himself targeted by Ego before T'Challa (that world's Star-Lord) stepped in to save the day. Talking to Brian earlier this week, we asked what it was like to follow in the footsteps of Chris Pratt in the Marvel Studios series.
"That was really fun. It was kind of cool because in that first episode, there was only a little tiny bit, but I got to go hang out at the sound studio. It wasn’t a very long session, but I got to play and the voice director let me try it a couple of different ways and try this, try that," the actor told us. "There were sounds I don’t even remember because there was just that ‘Sorry, we’re closed,’ but I’m sitting there going, ‘This is kinda cool! I’m an alternative Peter Quill, formerly the Star-Lord [Laughs] in this iteration of the universe as The Watcher watches this parallel Peter Quill.’"
"It was really, really cool. I can’t recall if it was for the session for the first episode or the second one, but there was this cool moment of humming or bopping along to a song that was on the playlist of Peter Quill in this alternate universe," Delaney added. "For me, that was a ‘Holy crap’ moment that was just really, really cool. I guess that’s all I can say about that, man."
We also asked if it was a special moment for him to see his Peter Quill share the screen with the late Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa in what would prove to be his final performance. "Absolutely, yeah. How fulfilling it has to be to watch…he’s gone from us now, but he lives on and there he is."
With Pratt back at work shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it's possible the actor will lend his voice to What If...? season 2 should the opportunity arise. However, we'd love to see more of Delaney's take on Quill because he did a great job with the screentime he did receive, and we'll have more to share from our interview soon (including what it was like to bring Hal Jordan to life in Injustice).
