STRANGER THINGS Season 5 Episode Title Leads To Speculation About A Certain Character's Return

We think this is a bit of a stretch ourselves, but the title of the first episode of the upcoming final season of Stranger Things has led to speculation that a certain fan-favorite character could return.

To mark the recent Stranger Things Day, The Duffer Brothers took to social media to share the title of the first episode of the upcoming fifth and final season via the Netflix show's official Twitter account.

Page one of the script reveals that season 5, chapter 1 will be known as: "The Crawl."

While this doesn't appear to give us very much to go on, some fans are convinced that the title is teasing the return of the late Eddie Munson!

Right before his untimely demise in the season 4 finale, the heroic metal-head caused a distraction that allowed his friends to infiltrate Vecna's lair by laying down an epic "Master of Puppets" guitar solo.

Could "The Crawl" be a reference to the song's lyrics, "Come crawling faster/come obey your master?" It's a bit of a stretch, to be sure, but certainly not outside the realm of possibility.

If - and it's a big if - Eddie is somehow resurrected, our guess is he'll be under Vecna's control.

When asked about the possibility of fans seeing Eddie again in a recent interview, producer Shawn Levy said: "A lot of people can't even handle the thought of a season 5 without some excuse for Eddie presence. Highly unlikely, highly unlikely. But we hear you, world, we know. You're obsessed with Eddie – so are we."

Production on the final season of Stranger Things is expected to begin early next year.

I hope Eddie stays dead. Don’t ruin his amazing sacrifice for cheap fan service.

@mountainman - I disagree, in my opinion the sacrifice was cheap. They wanted to give the idea that the stakes increased, but instead of killing off one of the OG characters they decide to kill off an amazing new character after just one season

@Urubrodi - they always do that and it never actually raises the stakes, love the show but that trick only really worked with bob.

@Urubrodi - Now you do make a good point. It’s almost as if they are scared to kill off a fan favorite.

Hopper not dieing at the end of season 3 was pretty cheesy.

I just think the way it was done was good. Dorky kid never had a lot of friends and he had identified himself as running from problems sacrificed himself for others in an incredibly epic way.

Off-topic:

"Gears of War was released 16 years ago today and to mark the occasion, Netflix has partnered with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War video game saga into a live action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with the potential for more stories to follow."

HOLY SHIT

@WaffeX - Looking at the game, thinking yes!!! Then looking at the Resident Evil game, then the Netflix abomination... eh I mean "adaptation" and it puts a major red flag on my expectations.

@WaffeX - If it was as an anime like Castlevania and Tekken I'd put more faith in it, but after Resident Evil it's very hard to get excited about live-action adaptations from them.

@WaffeX - It got me hyped until I saw "Netflix" sigh, another ruined IP.

My theory is vecna will possess Eddie’s dead body and it will come full circle of Eddie being vecna in d&d. Everybody in Hawkins will believe he was the devil all along. Nobody will listen to the kids except for Eddie’s uncle and the obvious ones. D&d will be outlawed in stranger things universe. The kids, now adults, lead a rebellion against the military to legalize d&d once again. Tensions running high, tactical missions are being operated on both sides. I should be getting ready for work now.

I wish Eddie would have been introduced a season or two ago as a background character. He was such a refreshing addition to the show (even if I suspect he was created to get around killing Steve, while still having a Steve-esque character die).

Eddie is a perfect example of "leave them wanting more".

@SheepishOne - Agree with everything, but considering how he is more interesting than most of the characters of the show it is very annoying that we got just one season with him.

@Urubrodi - Absolutely. It's bittersweet because I've always seen Steve as having the most interesting character arc of anyone, but Eddie's story was so much more interesting last season than anything they did with Steve. I loved Eddie, but they could have done roughly the same story with Steve.

It’s “Come crawling faster, obey your master” not "Come crawling faster, come obey your master”.

Didn’t watch season 4. I’ve lost interest in ST. It goes no where.

Killing Eddie off was a mistake but an impactful sacrifice none the less. If this is true - they’re just trying to have their cake and eat it too.

A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts.

Keep him dead 🥺

I don't believe Eddie will be back, this is just fan-wishfull thinking.
But IF (WITH A BIG IF ON IT) he comes back I would like to see a Monster-Eddie but not a lackey of Vecna, but maybe another smart monster to fight alongside the good guys.
