Will THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Return For Season 2? The Showrunners Know How The Ongoing Comic Series Ends
Netflix has yet to renew The Umbrella Academy for season 2 but if it does, the showrunners already know the overarching themes and ending for the ongoing Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá Dark Horse comic.
First announced back in July 2017, Netflix's adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's ongoing Dark Horse series was something of a surprise hit when it debuted on February 15. With Netflix and Marvel/Disney now competitors, the streaming giant will need to look elsewhere to satisfy its fanboy subscribers.
Speaking to Collider, Way and Bá revealed that they gave co-showrunner Steve Blackman an outline of the entire series, including where the unreleased volumes will head.
"What I did for Steve Blackman (the showrunner) and the writers in that first writers room was to create an eighteen-page document that laid everything out. Even of the graphic novels that haven’t come out yet. Which should equal eight when we’re all done. So I gave them the blueprint for what happens, because you do want to seed certain things in there for future series and the hope is that it’s a success so that you do a lot more of these. They’re very curious what Gabriel and I are doing next. We always send them the new comics. They really want to know what’s happening."
With the live-action Marvel TV shows departing for Disney+ and The CW Arrowverse shows also potentially leaving for its own parent-company streaming platform, are comic book adaptations like The Umbrella Academy enough for you to maintain your Netflix subscription?
