Why You (Probably) Liked The Mandalorian more than The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett has met more mixed reactions than its predecessor, The Mandalorian. In Part 1 of this video series comparing the two shows, I look at their different approaches to story structure.

Although we’re not quite through with the Book of Boba Fett, the reactions to the series have been pretty mixed. While there are definitely some fans who are loving it, the general consensus I’m seeing is that people haven’t enjoyed the series as much as The Mandalorian.

I’ve seen a range of criticisms, but as a writer, I’d like to examine two key areas to explain why The Mandalorian was able to pull me (and likely you) into its story more effectively. Obviously it’s not fair to compare an in-progress miniseries to 2 full seasons of an ongoing series, so I’m going to keep my comparison primarily to the first 3 episodes of both shows which lay the foundations for the stories.

This first video focuses on the structural approach of the two series. In the planned follow-up, I'll take a closer look at the handling of the two lead characters before closing the video series out by diving into the approach to this show that I would've found more satisfying.
