It is no secret that the team behind
Supernatural is in love with what they do - even after closing out the show after a decade and a half of airtime, many of them have expressed interest in returning if the situation should so arise.
Knowing this, how does it effect the production of the final season? In many cases this effects character deaths and open plotlines, but the Executive Produces are assuring fans that their sole focus is on what is best for the boys this season.
“We weren’t really considering whether there would be a future movie or a reboot or anything like that. We wanted to write the best ending that we could, that we all were internally happy with, and that’s what we’ve done.” - Robert Singer, Executive Producer
Season 15 of
Supernatural will still feature standalone episodes with humor mixed in without going full on into the usual fan service fun that fans are used to, but at its core the story will be about what the boys need.
“I hope we’re speaking to the majority of our fans. There’s definitely episodes where we do address things that come out of the fandom and out of social media, but in terms of how the story ends, in terms of bringing back certain characters, it was [about] what makes sense for the guys on their journey and in this story at this point. To some extent, all television now is fan service, but it’s not about direct fan service in that way; it’s more about what is going to get us to the emotional conclusion that we want for these guys.” - Andrew Dabb, Executive Producer
Of course, this means that fans can expect to see a bevy of familiar faces including Kevin the Prophet (Osric Chau), Billie the Reaper (Lisa Berry), Eileen the Hunter (Shoshanna Stern), and perhaps most importantly - Adam, the Winchester's half-brother.Dabb admits it may be difficult to tie up every single loose end the show has dropped over the past decade and a half, but they are going to do their best to get the big ones.
