SUPERNATURAL Star Jared Padalecki Says He's "Gutted" About Sam Not Being Included In THE WINCHESTERS

Last night, the news broke that Jensen Ackles is developing a Supernatural prequel which will see him return as Dean Winchester. Well, no one told Jared Padalecki, and it sounds like he's pretty upset...

The CW has given a script commitment to The Winchesters, a Supernatural prequel series focusing on John and Mary Winchester. Jensen Ackles is returning as Dean Winchester to narrate the events of the show, while the actor - who will next be seen as Soldier Boy in The Boys - is also set to produce.

Unfortunately, no one told Jared Padalecki. The actor played Sam Winchester in The CW series, and after congratulating his old co-star, he revealed that he first heard the news on Twitter and admitted to being "bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever."

Padalecki, who now stars in and produces Walker, later said he was "gutted" by the news.

This is definitely a surprising reaction, though he likely feels just as much ownership over Supernatural as Ackles. Seeing as Dean will narrate the story of his parents from his perspective, it's not as if Sam is necessary to The Winchesters, but there might have been a better way to let Padalecki know. As of right now, Ackles has yet to respond publicly to his former co-star's comments.

The news of a prequel series has been met with a lot of different responses, especially as much of John and Mary's story has already been told via flashbacks in the main series.

Well a show can only have 1 narrator

Got to wonder how early in development it is

Although after 15 year together, could have given him a heads up

@dracula - This is probably going for more "serious" tone, but for a different show it could actually be a fun gimmick to have two narrators, who constantly disagree how the events played out and you would see the all kinds of random changes happen on-screen.

It could work though with two narrators right? Just have two versions of the story, one being the new show and one being the flashbacks from Supernatural (although I haven't seen the show, I can imagine The Winchesters might retcon some stuff).

I know they aren’t obligated but damn, they could have at least told him.

Also that’s a good point. Didn’t they already show the major aspects of their backstory? Actually the more I think about it the project seems a bit off.

Not gonna lie, that's a dick move on Jensen's part.

I'm still trying to figure out what stories could be told. Dean went back in time and visited the folks a couple of times, once with Sam, and the prevailing feeling I got was that Mom wanted no part of the life, especially after getting pregnant with Dean. I'm sure they will come up with something but just don't see it at this point. Would have much rather seen The Wayward Girls instead. Also hope that Jared is just cruelly joking about the situation, if not, yeah a bit of a "Dick" move as someone already said.

@Mugens - I'm sure their parents did a lot of hunting. They can even bring back Chuck to show how he was pulling the strings even back then, that led up to the yellow eyed demon killing Mary.

@Captainhulk1 - They didn't. The Mom quitted the Hunting life and the Dad had no idea about the Supernatural until the demon killed the Mom.

Pretty sure when people refer to the main characters of Supernatural they say “ Sam and Dean Winchester”….not the other way around…..Definitely grimy not to tell him though.

Jensen is kind of [frick]ed up for not telling him

If it’s a prequel series, it can be John and Dean while Sam was in Stanford.

@Mrtoke - just read the article. Sam doesn’t need to be in it.

That's very messed up of Jensen to not tell Jared about that, and for it all to be laid bare on Twitter.

I remember when me, Quentin and Robert Rodriguez called up Jensen to invite him to a party, he said, "That's cool, just don't invite Jared, he's always following me around" Now it all makes sense

I mean it seems like Jensen was just kind of careless and developed the project without him. It sucks, but seems pretty normal

This prequel in and of itself is pretty unnecessary anyway since, as the article points out, we've seen so much of John and Mary's backstory.

Wow how shitty. That's like being the original member of a band then not even getting told they are reuniting and going on your together and writing new music together without you.

That's mega gross.

I can understand wanting to break out on his own and do something separate from Jared, but to develop something within the franchise you set forth with someone who's like a brother to you and not involve them, let alone even tell them... thats shady dirty stuff. Even a text, "Hey brother, heads up I've got this idea for a Supernatural prequel I'm pitching to CW, I'm producing it and I really want creative control over this, so I'm gonna play this close to the chest, but I wanted to give you a heads up, and obviously there's gonna be room for Sam if you are interested in ever reprising in some capacity, or if you would like to help produce or direct some episodes... but this is gonna be my idea I'm pitching".

After 15 years, it's just a matter of respect. It's Supernatural. That is THEIRS.

Technically he doesnt have to tell him. They aren't friends, or are they? I can understand morally why he should have told his co-worker of several years he was working on a project that may include some of his character's backstory. But he doesnt have to tell him anything especially if they are not close.

From what I read it appears that Jared was just mucking around. If that's the case bad joke because now everyone is up in arms at hate towards Jensen.

I mean...it's not really necessary. if this show is solely about john and mary…"Sam" really wasn't part of their lives during that time. what could he possibly remember about them being together? hell, he was a baby when mary died.
