VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Spoilers - How The Game-Changing Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Marvel's Insane Future

Venom: Let There Be Carnage delivers a game-changing, world-shattering post-credits scene, and we're now taking a closer look at what happens and how it sets up a truly insane Marvel movie future!

Spider-Man: Far From Home featured a post-credits scene that proved to be a massive game-changer for Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With his identity revealed to the world, the web-slinger's status quo was left a mystery, though this December's Spider-Man: No Way Home promises to show the disastrous consequences of Peter's attempts to erase what happened.

With Tom Holland's Spidey set to be thrown into the Multiverse, it's inevitable that he'll soon start crossing paths with the characters that inhabit Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

However, little did we know a film like Venom: Let There Be Carnage would have such world-shattering consequences for that world, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and No Way Home. This wasn't shown to press during early screenings, but with the sequel now in theaters, fans are going crazy.

Here's a closer look at what led to this, how the stinger plays out, and where we're going next...

A Little Background...

Disney and Sony Pictures' agreement to share Spider-Man is what brought Peter Parker into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Homecoming benefited greatly from the hero's debut in Captain America: Civil War, while the next two Avengers films helped propel Spider-Man: Far From Home into that elusive $1 billion club.

Things broke down between the two studios, but anger from fans helped bring about a new financial agreement that means Spider-Man will continue to be shared. However, it was made clear at the time that the plan was for Tom Holland's version of the character to be part of the MCU and SSMU.

2018's Venom was the first film set in the SSMU, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius set to join it. Kraven the Hunter, Silk, and Madame Web will also be in this Sony-owned shared universe, but are those characters all about to join the MCU? Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes being in that Morbius trailer was the first indication it would be the case; now, we have another.

What Happens

At the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Eddie Brock and Venom have gone on the run and are shown chilling out on a beach (an apparent nod to the villain taking refuge on a desert island after he was fooled into thinking he'd killed Spider-Man).

In this post-credits scene, the unlikely duo can be seen in bed watching a telenovela. It's not the nicest hotel room, and talk between Eddie and Venom turns to the sort of things the alien has experienced over the years. Just as Venom prepares to offer his human host a glimpse into his past, the world around them begins to shake, there's a glow from outside, and they're transported to a new hotel room on a different Earth (Venom confirms this isn't something he's responsible for).

It looks completely different, and a news report is playing with J. Jonah Jameson talking about the MCU's Spider-Man; an unmasked Peter is shown on television in the middle of New York City and Venom likes what he sees. He licks the screen and has clearly set his sights on the hero. The big twist here, however, is that Venom has been brought directly into the MCU!

Where Do We Go Next?

93843433

Clearly, whatever brings the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Electro into the MCU has the same impact on Venom. We don't know if that means he'll be the sixth member of that interdimensional Sinister Six, but we'd be shocked if Eddie doesn't show up in some way, shape, or form in the threequel.

A post-credits scene setting up a Spider-Man 4 following Spidey battling Venom makes perfect sense, and it appears Marvel Studios will be heavily involved with that. A new director is likely to be at the helm following Jon Watts' decision to move on to Fantastic Four, and we're guessing that Eddie will be sent back to his own world in time for a Venom 3 with the regular cast.

How this will facilitate future crossovers with Spider-Man remains to be seen, but No Way Home is bound to clear things up. In Venom's world, The Daily Bugle is a newspaper. In this one, it's a "news" show run by the belligerent J. Jonah Jameson; something tells us more crossovers are coming...

While it's a little messy, If this was the only way Spidey could stay in the MCU then I'm all for it.

Also, glad that the MCU is embracing the more wacky side of comics with all the multiverse hopping. I'm happy they aren't worried about confusing audiences with it and are just making the possibilities endless.

@Nightwing1015 - Wish took a screenshot of it, but back about a year and a half ago during the whole Sony/Disney Spidey deal drama I called that this would happen.

I said Feige would cut a deal to allow Venom (and probably the other Sony Spidey characters coming) to interact with the MCU in exchange for keeping Holland's Peter and possibly the introduction of live action Miles in the MCU long term.

Do I like it? No! But if it means more Spidey and Spidey rouges characters interacting with the ever expanding MCU...

@Nightwing1015 - honestly it's kinda genius what they are attempting. If Marvel is successful introducing the Multiverse to main stream audiences, Marvel will have forever ended the ultimate problem of confusing casting and if this movie connects to that movie... because literally everything Marvel will from that point on be connected. No longer will we have to explain "no, that was a different franchise" because everything will be understood as being under the same Multiverse umbrella.

Kevin is a smart cookie.

@Nightwing1015 - I haven't seen the sequel, but the first Venom was so inoffensive to me that I had no problem with it being in the MCU. I'd say I even liked it better than The Incredible Hulk.

As long as there is some distance in people's minds between "Marvel/Avengers/Whatever" and "Sony/Spider-Man Villians", I think the franchise can survive a few stinkers (assuming something like Morbius is a stinker).

Playing footsie with new Sony movies is much less dangerous (I think) than toying around with the Raimi and FoX-Men stuff. In those cases, there are a lot of nostalgia-driven outspoken internet nerdboys who can be quickly emboldened to #CastTheRealMagneto or #BringBackKinberg or whatever it is.

I love Molina and Dafoe, and while they're not my favorite interpretations of Doctor Octopus or Green Goblin, there's no denying that they gave a great performances with the material they were given. I fully understand wanting to bring them back. But I've also seen how creative and insightful the MCU's adaptation of Vulture and Mysterio were. Those were B or C list villains that got reworked with some really sharp social and meta-commentary about the MCU itself.

I kind of hate to lose that with these earlier villains (and I'd hate to lose that with Professor X or Magneto or whoever else might make the jump from Fox, even in a multiverse-context).

@Spock0Clock - I don't think crossovers with all these old versions is them actually coming over to the MCU, we'll still get the MCU versions of these characters eventually. I think it's just making use of these characters while we still can.

Tobey is getting old after all lol! Best time to do this (if they were ever going to) is now.

@Nightwing1015 - I actually don't think the MCU will have it's own Norman Osborn or Otto Octavius after this. Holland's Spidey franchise will probably only go on for another solo trilogy at most, and there are plenty of other B list rogues to revamp. Maybe they do a Lady Dr. Octopus (in the vein of Spider-Verse, though I still feel like it was as much an adaptation of Carolyn Trainer) or they do an MCU version of Hobgoblin, but the desire to keep things fresh will probably mean they don't say "here's Norman and Harry again" after featuring the Raimi incarnation.

I'm not mad about it, exactly. I always thought there was a chance Feige would steer clear of Raimi's legacy. But where I'm really concerned is with X-Men. If Feige could, I think he would get Steward, McKellan, and Jackman back just because of how perfect they were (in his mind and in the minds of a lot of fans). That impulse could end up squishing a proper reboot. Though, I do think Fox helped soften the blow on that with their own semi-rebooted cast...

Anyway, I'm venting. Sorry, to vent.

@Spock0Clock - I heard a rumour that meeting Norman in No Way Home will actually make Peter seek out his universe's version in the next film but I guess time will tell if that's true.

@Spock0Clock - perfectly said. I totally agree and would’ve loved Marvels take on the other spider villains after seeing Vulture and Mysterio. But the saving grace could partially be Marvel getting to do Spidey vs Venom in Spider-Man 4 than Sony doing it in Venom 3.

@Nightwing1015 - I still think Sony should start doing standalone Spider films to eventually prepare for a Spider-Geddon movie.

If his role in No Way Home is something like this, then I can get on board.

The utter conviency of Eddie appearing infront of that tv scene. Not to mention them somehow getting a whole goddamn shot of Peter just standing there

@PsychoBatemen - yeah wtf why do they have a shot of him just standing there looking around? So random

Just so we are clear, this doesnt make the movies mcu canon just as tobey and andrew appearing in nwh doesnt make their movies mcu canon.

Different universe interact, thats it.

@Jeight8 - I do hope that this was only because of the Sony deal, and that this doesn't mean Marvel Studios will ever consider bringing anything over from the FoX-men films

@JFerguson - They already brought an actor. I think that says enough
