Will Tom Hardy's VENOM Be The Spider-Man Of Sony's Shared Spider-Verse?
With Spider-Man firmly entrenched in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears as if the Spider-Verse will have to make do without a Spidey of its own but a new report points to Venom taking his place...
The chances of Spider-Man appearing in Sony's Spider-Verse appear to be somewhere between slim and none for the foreseeable future and that means characters like Venom, Silver Sable, Black Cat, and Kraven the Hunter will all exist in a world where the wall-crawler doesn't. However, a recent profile on Tom Hardy in Esquire points to Venom stepping up and taking on a larger role in proceedings.
According to the magazine, the actor "may well appear" in other movies set in this new cinematic universe, with Venom serving as just the beginning. With no Spider-Man in sight, it would make sense for Eddie Brock to become the Spider-Verse's lead, taking on the role of a Lethal Protector and teaming up with, say, Morbius the Living Vampire in order to take on a new version of the Sinister Six.
Many fans have actually theorised that will be the case and if it sounds like a very 90s thing to do, that's probably because Venom took on that sort of anti-hero role in the comics back then! It doesn't appear as if Hardy is worrying too much about Sony's attempts/struggles to create its own shared world, though: "If the odds are stacked against Sony, that’s not my f***ing business. It’s irrelevant."
