According to the latest news from Bloody-Disgusting, Milla Jovovich will be returning again as "Alice" in Resident Evil: Retribution. They also say that Paul W.S. Anderson will direct the movie from his own screenplay. Anderson directed both the first film in the franchise and Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, which arrived in theaters last September.

Sienna Guillory had posted on Twitter that she will be returning as "Jill Valentine," but according to the site, the character will be recast. They are saying that "Barry Burton", who was a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service), and "Leon Scott Kennedy," a U.S. Government agent, and previously an officer for the Raccoon City Police Department, are going to be on the movie too.

The new movie will shoot this coming October at Toronto, Canada and Japan.

No Plot details were revealed yet, but Sony Screen Gems is aiming to have it in theaters come September 14, 2012. An October start date could ensure this.

What is so hard for people to understand that the movies follow the TIMELINE of the games, and are not adaptations of the actual games themselves?

The first RE movie is like a prequel to the first game. The first game starts out with zombies attacking people in the wooded hills above Raccoon City. The first movie showed how the zombies were released.

In the 2nd game, we see Leon enter Raccoon City as he was reassigned to their police dept. In the game, Leon goes to the police station and it is already ransacked and overrun with zombies, as well as the rest of the towm. But the 2nd movie showed the police station while it was still operational, and showed the town as the outbreak was first happening. So the 2nd movie takes place just before the 2nd game, and then overlaps.

The third movie showed pretty much the entire world overrun with zombies, with only one known safe haven, so it takes place way in the future of any of the games to date.

The fourth movie as well.

Are they still calling these films Resident Evil? That's just false advertising.

@CorndogBurglar

That's the problem. There are more than 5 perfectly fine Resident Evil games, with characters and storylines that a massive number of fans have adored for about 15 years, and the films just completely disregard them.

I don't wanna see a director's alternate take on the series BEFORE the original storylines and characters have gotten the chance. I wanna see what I've known and loved for over a decade come to life on the big screen.

These films just don't do the franchise justice.

I 100% agree with @supermarioworldE they had tons of great games that they could of easily followed but instead they make up a new character and a new story line for them...Its like they sh*tted on the makers of the game by saying "No we dont respect there work that you've done so were going to make up new stuff"...they even had a chance to have George Romero do the resident evils abd they turned him down!...THE PERSON WHO INVENTED ZOMBIESS!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! This guy had the script for it and everything,he was going to follow the game completely starting it off with chris in the mansion...smh these movies are a complete failure and putting leon in it now with jill would just be confusing and would mess up the building of the characters

@prodigy23

"putting leon in it now with jill would just be confusing and would mess up the building of the characters"

Exactly. These MAIN CHARACTERS from the games have been brought into the films as supporting characters with little to no development. It's crazy.

I'm a Leon fan but they really should just stop. And i mean go back in time and stop it from when they even thought up the Alice character kinda stop.

CorndogBurglar

@ supermario

I can respect that, man. I would like to see adaptations of the games as well. I think they could make a genuinely scary ass movie in that old ass mansion from the first game. So i can't disagree. But at the same time, I'm not as insulted by these movies as much as some people, because again, they do at least follow the timeline somewhat.

@ prodigy

Have you seen anything George A. Romero has done in the past 15 years? Its all terrible! Completely [frick]ing terrible! Land of the Dead was a joke and insult to HIS OWN franchise that he created. Diary of the Dead was just decent, but could have been about a hundred times better. and his newest one, Survival of the Dead might be the worst zombie movie ever created in history.

Okay, we live on this island, and almost the entire population has been turned to zombies. We're not going to kill them though, because we might be able to find a cure. Riiiiiiight...so that zombie over there with his intestines dragging on the floor has a chance of being cured, is that you're master plan? please...zombies mowing lawns and checking the mail and shit...

Romero is well past his prime and needs to hang it up, because he forgot how to make a good movie a long time ago.
IAmProdigy23
IAmProdigy23 - 8/10/2011, 6:42 AM
@CorndogBurglar yes that is exactly why people still continue to make zombie movies till this day because all of his work sucked smh...If you are able to influence a whole industry then you are doing alot of things right...it may have died down in our days but truth is you can never F*ck with a classic...If it wasn't for that guy the Resident Evil series would of never been created they even said those games were heavily influenced by the "Dead" series...You cant go wrong with somebody who's following the story of the game AND has the characters right....I hated this new resident evil series the story is retarted (i dont even think it has one...i think i would of respected it more if they didnt call it resident evil....It still amazes me that these movies flunk in ratings/reviews but yet they still keep on making these movies...
supermarioworldE
supermarioworldE - 8/10/2011, 6:48 AM
@CorndogBurglar

Fair enough. I think we can agree that while these films do not follow the games as accurately as some would like, there is still a level of entertainment for fans both unfamiliar and familiar of the games to enjoy. I hope in the near future we can see more direct adaptations.

As for Romero, his work as of late certainly hasn't been as good as his previous efforts (Night, Dawn, Day), but I'm always curious as to where he would have gone with this franchise.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/10/2011, 9:49 AM
@ prodigy

lol, i never said ALL OF HIS WORK SUCKED. I realize that he created the zombie genre, and Night and Dawn are two of the best zombie movies ever made. if you read my comment, i said all of his work over the PAST 15 YEARS has been complete garbage.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/10/2011, 9:51 AM
@ mario

yeah man, the sad thing is that Land of the dead was the next in his zombie series, but it was just terrible and laughable.

and then he did diary of the dead, and that was supposed to reboot his series, but that was laughable as well. like i said, the guy needs to hang it up, lol.
supermarioworldE
supermarioworldE - 8/10/2011, 11:00 AM
@CorndogBurglar

I think with Romero, the guy just has some great ideas for his recent films, but it's in his execution that things falls apart. I'd love to see G.A.R back in his prime, making great horror masterpieces again, but yeah, his recent films aren't helping his current status.
