According to Variety, MGM have brought Marti Nixon -- best known for her work on Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer -- to write the script for their Tomb Raider reboot. The site say story details are still unknown, but that the movie will "likely follow archaeologist Lara Croft as she sets off on one of her international adventures." I think that's a long shot myself! Noxon made her name as a tv showrunner but her film credits include Fright Night and I Am Number 4. The reboot will be produced by Graham King through his GK Films banner.

I think it's because they want to get it posted before anyone else and then go back and complete it.

Fright Night I don't mind, but I Am Number Four....definition of a "Meh" film. Wonder will be the director.

If they follow the reboot game in a similar way and get a good actress for Lara Croft, they should be good. A good director never hurts too lol I've never watched any of the writers work so, I don't know if her hiring is a good thing or not. GK films has a good filmography and MGM I've always found to be a mixed bag. As long as they get good film makers then they're good. Also, can Warner Bros PLEASE hire someone other than Tancharoen for Mortal Kombat? He doesn't respect the source material and is terrible at writing and directing. Find a new career buddy.

The new game had a great story line. Loved the old games too but this was a good take on it and would make a good movie.

I saw Buffy and got excited because I thought, "OMG! JOSS WHEDON!" And then I saw that she wrote I Am Number Four...

Marti Noxon? She of the atrocious Buffy Season Six?

Pass.

i liked fright night but I Am #4? not so much.

but with that said, can't really judge her as a screenwriter. she could of turned in brilliant scripts 4 both movies only to be watered down via rewrites by another writer. it happens all the time, or even more commonly the director and/or editor could of simply left out pivotal scenes from her scripts or altered them via improv.

so yeah, i don't really like 2 judge screenwriters off of 1 or 2 scripts espicially under poor directors. but that aside, heres my fancast:

Director - Kathryn Bigelow, Paul Greengrass or James Mangold.
Lara Croft - Gemma Arterton, Haley Atwell or Keira Knightley.

Fright Night was probably the only proper remake. I love that movie. But we'll see about this.

Tomb Raider Begins.
Mix her origin in with her first adventure.

I haven't played the game yet, but I don't see how 'surviving on an island' = 'tomb raiding', so that'd have to be touched on (if the game doesn't).

Very interesting! If the movie will follow the exact plot of the rebooted video game, MGM has their work cut out for them. The new game was amazing!
