TOMB RAIDER 2 Officially In The Works; Recruits Writer Amy Jump For The Alicia Vikander-Led Franchise

After a modest BO performance, fans of 2018's Tomb Raider were left wondering if a sequel would ever be made. Now, it's been announced that a sequel is officially in development with a new writer on board.

When Tomb Raider hit theaters in 2018, fans were enthusiastic to see Alicia Vikander's take on the character. And though the film left audiences divided, the box office performance overseas, in addition to solid home release returns, have justified GK Films moving forward with a sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Free Fire and High-Rise writer Amy Jump has been tapped to pen the follow-up. Though nothing has been revealed beyond this (we're still not sure if Vikander herself will be returning) the announcement of a sequel is intriguing, nonetheless.

The 2018 film left audiences hanging with the prospect of Croft taking down Trinity in a potential sequel,. so it is possible that the upcoming film will focus on that.

Are you down for a Tomb Raider sequel?

Here's hoping that means Ben Wheatley will direct the sequel once he's finished with REBECCA.

It was good enough, say for a movie on Amazon or Netflix, not at the cinema. I am quite surprised.

Awesome news. I loved the first one. My favorite video game movie ever. I know low bar. And Alicia Vikander...

Vikander brought her a-game for the first one, hopefully she gets something a bit better to work this time round

I mean, I really liked the reboot. But...275 mill box-office on a 105 million dollar budget, paired with a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes? Alrighty then.🤘 My only request for the sequel, is to give Lara Croft a love interest. It doesn't have to take over the whole movie. Just establish that these strong, female action heroes, actually have a love life. Making them more human and relatable.

The first one wasn't great, but I see potential for its sequels to be better.

Hopefully this time around Nick Frost and Daniel Wu share a scene together. I'll never understand how you can have both main cast members from Into the Badlands in Tomb Raider, yet never have them in the same scene.

After that last debacle, I hope they go back to the drawing board and start a new series. The actress, script, action choreography were all amateur level and not worthy of the legacy. Go back to the formula that worked. A chesty Indiana Jones solving riddles with supernatural elements and big budget fx.

I hope no bikinis or nude anything just something like Indiana Jones style. No Rambo or James Bond. I just want Alicia Vikander to it better Style then Angelina Jolie.

The first one was a fine watch for in between all the real blockbusters, but sequel really needs some improvement. Get some big names, massive marketing and actually make it something great. This could do Jumanji numbers, if pulled off correctly

I actually liked the first movie, I'd just wished they'd not done with Lord Croft what they. I'm definitely there for an improved sequel.

The first one wasn't that good. But it's actually refreshing that they are taking a chance to improve. You don't see that often.

Some franchises have potential, but they are abandoned because of bad returns. On the flip side, bad movies with box office success are milked harder than what they are worth.
