VIDEO GAMES: Four New Trailers For METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE

Thanks to IGN, we have four more trailers for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The first was released to mark the release of the demo (which became available for download from yesterday), and the rest - "Suiting up", "Locations" and "Zandatsu" - all cover various other aspects of the video game. While it started out as mysterious stealth/action hybrid from Kojima Productions, PlatinumGames have clearly put more of a focus on the same sort of over the top action they brought to Bayonetta and Vanquish. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance goes on sale February 19th.

Players assume control of Raiden, protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and supporting character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. A key gameplay feature for the game is titled zan-datsu, which involves "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots. Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth." Unlike the "waiting stealth" of previous titles, in which players remained hidden and avoided combat, players in Rising will instead quickly stalk their enemies and use acrobatic manoeuvres to stay out of sight while closing in. This ties in with the game's zan-datsu feature, allowing them to prey upon enemies to obtain weapons, items, and energy.

Metal Gear is my favourite video game series of all time. I'll give this a chance but some things worry me like this taking place after MGS4 because everyone got there ending. Any stories including raiden, snake and otacon that take place after MGS4 are completely unecessary, and they kind of ruin the ending. I will say this though, the ending of MGS4 has more emotional depth then a good majority of movies these days.

Played it at Eurogamer Expo, it's fun feels wrong without Snake being involved.

I agree with spideyguy 94. Metal Gear is my favorite series. Mgs4 kinda wrapped up the story perfectly. I don't want any games set after it. The game was beautiful and was a perfect ending for the series. I'm ok with games taking place during the series like rising was originally supposed to, and ground zeroes looks amazing so does phantom pain (if that turns out to be mgs5), but I'm not quite sold on rising. I just don't feel it is necessary. It would be ok if it was treated like mg acid and was not part of the story line. But they are claiming it is canon.

(played demo all night so kinda drowsy and delirious)

If you haven't played the demo and don't know what's going on in the story, don't comment. For the sake of fandom I won't spoil anything for you.

Metal Gear Rising feels like more of an off-shoot than a sequel. The basic tenants of the universe are intatct, but this is a Raiden game, not a Snake game. Hence the "Rising" and not "Solid". True, it takes place after the events of MGS:4. But I know I'm not the only one who felt like Raiden didn't get his just due in that game. I couldn't wait to play as him in Metal Gear: Online!

Plus, there are some who came into the franchise with Raiden and Sons of Liberty. A lot of fans wanted to have a chance to weild Raiden in Guns of the Patriots. Finally he gets his spotlight game and I, for one, am thrilled about it!

Ugh and its Raiden again. But, but, but he has a red eye and a coool robot jaw so he's not a lame character anymore, right?

I'm picking up the game on release day for sure but I still have reservations about it . I may be proven wrong . downloading the demo as I type this .

I'm probably commenting on this too much, but just to reiterate Mgs is my favorite series. When the phantom pain rumors started floating around I began my third full play through of the series, which is snake eater, portable ops, peace walkers, metal gear, metal gear 2 solid snake, metal gear solid, sons of liberty, and guns of the patriots . I am an English major, meaning I have read hundreds of books, I also read comics daily, play video games, watch many tv series, and am a huge movie buff. I have heard many stories in my day and the metal gear story is my personal favorite . Like I said earlier, I am just scared that this game may ruin the peaceful, beautiful ending mgs4 had . Mgs4 seemed to wrap up everyone's story . I am downloading the demo . In less than 20 minutes my fears may subside or be confirmed . I'll let you know .

@TheAmarilloBlack

It IS an off shoot. No where has ANYONE involved with the game or has ANY promotional material claimed it is a sequel to MGS4(the worst in the series IMO). Its a spin off that shares a universe and characters with the series, but it fundamentally different in both "feel" and game play.

After playing the demo a few times I can confidently say that this game will kick my ass... in a good way.
Only complaints are that the parry system is strange and the controls for Blade Time are funky.

@BlackAmerica

The only wrap ups MGS4 provided (that I recall) are SS giving up war to live out his (short) life in peace and Raiden getting a new body and living a "normal life". I can accept the former, but the latter always seemed like a cop out. Raiden was NEVER a "normal" person and never will be. Sure you can build him a normal looking body but the man is still nothing more than a head and spinal cords that knows nothing but war. Another factor to take into account is the rise of PMCs in the world. That shit ain't normal and is bound to give birth to a whole mess of problems that can be explored, not to mention the seemingly exponential increase in robotics. Raiden is a perfect person to handle these problems because he is both versed in how PMCs operate and how to... be a robot man.

Raiden was only lame until you realize how much of a [frick]ed up monster is really is.

The first time I beat the demo I was like eh it is ok. Second time I used mad sneaking skills and got an S rank in every battle . One you fully grasp the controls this game is boss.

Wow some of you are [frick]in idiots.

This is rising not solid , its not a stealth game its and action spinoff.

Like how hard is that to understand??

Hmmm, the demo was pretty meh. Lacked gameplay depth (it was only the demo though), kind of just another hack and slash action romp from the couple hours I played. Gfx, Raiden looked good, but overall, its very MGS... which isn't necessarily a good thing, feels like a polished PS2 game, only a little late.

I'll skip it.

Besides Kojima producing and sheparding the story, you're right. I disagree about Guns of the Patriots being the weakest of the series, tho! STEALTH CAMO! SOP! lol

@DevilHulk
Precisely.

@SHHH
I see what you did there!
