VIDEO GAMES: Prepare for Assassin's Creed 3

Out of the blue, tons of details have been leaked on the next official AC title. It's bigger, badder, and American...er.

Gamers, it's time to meet your newest Assassin. No, it's not Desmond, whom is technically the main character. What are you expecting? Well, hold your imagination there kiddo, because this one's a doozy. This time, Assassin's Creed will take place in none other than the American Revolution. This is the official box art.

I chose to post the Xbox version because I prefer Xbox. The game also comes out on PS3 and PC, and obviously to expand the game's fanbase. Anyway, we now have a bunch of details about the game. You can read them straight from the horse's mouth:

-New hero called Connor/Ratohnhake:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo). He has an English father and Native American mother.
-A new traversal approach that has players leaping and climbing trees and mountain cliffs.
-Combat is focused on putting you on the offensive and based on speed/momentum. The main character has thousands of new and unique animations (no carry over from other titles) to support the new combat system. There’s no more target locking, it just automatically detects your target. Counter/defense are the same button to prevent turtling.
-Connor is in the heart of major battles, and they can now have a couple thousand guys on screen, whereas before it was capped at about 100.
-There will be all sorts of wilderness in the game referred to as the Frontier. The map of the Frontier is 1.5 times bigger than the entire map of Brotherhood.
-The world changes as time passes, so a field where a battle happened in one year may just be a series of empty encampments a few months later. The entire world will change with seasons, so the cities and the wilderness will all exist in both Summer and Winter settings.
-You can now leap over wagons or slide under obstacles, including navigating over and around moving objects. The free running stuff also has you jumping through windows to trees and then on top of church roofs.
-This game has the longest development cycle since AC1, and has twice the production capacity (in terms of work hours) and budget of Revelations.

That information will actually be in the next issue of Game Informer. So what do you think? American Revolution...good, or bad? Personally, I've been wanting this since the second game came out. I always imagined that America would be a pretty cool place for an Assassin. Some questions do arise though. What about guns? Guns are obviously a big part in American history. Are we moving closer and closer to modern day, or not?

The game is supposed to come out on October 30th, 2012. As we all know, that could change. Stay tuned!

this is supposedly the last game in the series because the producer said the story revolves around the 2012 doom prophecy and they want to release it before december 2012 or the build up is pointless. any other AC game after that will be a new story. so, apart from the revolution, it must have modern day scenes with desmond as an assassin, finally. he must become an assassin and take the company down...

The producer actually said this is the last game in the 2012 apocalypse storyline. After this one, there will be a time lapse of a few years before they release a fourth game. At that point, they can more or less set it in any time period they want.

Love this franchise. They have made each game an evolution of the previous version in terms of game play. The new one looks sweet. Like how they mix the assassin uniform with native american/colonial garb.

I'm confused. If the character is British/Indian why isn't he offing the Yankees instead of the British; or is he killing people on both sides? Anyway, looks good and definitely going to pick this one up.

@TonyEboy Ezio is dead, and now they are going to a different Ancestor in the 1770's

@TonyEboy

AC1 was the start of Desmond's story with Altair being the ancestor exploring the beginnings of the Templar/Assassin war in Jerusalem.

AC2 and Brotherhood had Ezio as the ancestor in Renaissance Italy.

Revelations was the final chapter to Ezio's and Altair's life as Assassins.

AC3 will be the end of Desmond's story with this new character being the last ancestor explored in order to to prevent the 2012 Doomsday Event which was the overall goal of the entire series.

does anybody else just like hate these games? like its a good concept, but the gamely is so clumsy and the free running is annoying as hell. on top of that, why does an assassin need a costume? shouldn't they just be wearing something normal and inconspicuous? the blatant bright white hooded costume is kind of a give away when it comes to "we're looking for some dude who just killed another dude"
rbfn04
rbfn04 - 3/3/2012, 3:38 AM
@supernaturalfreak I'll give you that: the costume made more sense in the first one, when you could mix in with priests wearing similar clothes, than on later games.

But still, amazing storytelling. clever us of all the 2012, Illuminati conspiracy theories.

Also, Kristen Bell...

Im still pretty skeptical about that setting but maybe there is a way they can pull it off?

I was hoping we could finally play with Desmond too.

I think they pulled off the costume ok in the other episodes (the fact that you could change the color of it helped).
