Rise, Tarnished.

We've been waiting a long time for an update on Elden Ring, which was first announced during Microsoft's E3 conference in 2019. There was some speculation that the game may have been delayed indefinitely, but an official release fate was revealed during today's Summer Game Fest stream along with an exciting new gameplay trailer.

The open world, action adventure RPG marks the first collaboration between Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin and FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki. The new trailer follows our nameless hero (Tarnished?) through a stunningly-realized fantasy world as he encounters various weird and wonderful-looking creatures, including dragons, goblins, werewolves, and... giant hands.

Elden Ring is set for release on January 21, 2022, and is expected to be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X as well as PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out the new trailer below, and let us know what you think.

ELDEN RING, developed by FromSoftware, Inc. and BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc., is a fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki – creator of the influential DARK SOULS video game series; and George R.R. Martin – author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Danger and discovery lurk around every corner in FromSoftware’s largest game to-date. Hidetaka Miyazaki, President and Game Director of FromSoftware Inc. Known for directing critically-acclaimed games in beloved franchises including Armored Core, Dark Souls, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

I don't believe this is from George rr Martin AND from software. I made it all the way through the trailer and I didn't die.

@Origame - I'm just surprised to even hear about this game again

@Himura - I didn't hear about this one specifically. Just figured from software was pumping out more and more games since their name was so big now.

I wouldn't exactly say it's stunning. Visually, it doesn't look too up to date compared to newer releases. But the creature designs are fantastic as usual.
I am bummed out a bit because it seems closer to Dark Souls/Bloodborne than Sekiro. I prefer the lineare narrative and gameplay style of that game. It remains to me the standard of From Software games.

Looks cool, but I probably won't be playing it. Sekiro and Dark Souls and the like are just not my type of game

It's like a culmination of their work from the last decade. So [frick]ing stoked. Now I'm hoping Nintendo finally brings on the news for the Breath of Wild sequel on Tuesday.

It looks good (it's from software of course) but I doesn't look like next gen, it just looks like DS3 on PC optimized.

Game looks pretty good, but I’ve always avoided soulslike games because I’m my skill level is pretty mediocre at most games, and while I enjoy playing games, I don’t enjoy getting so angry at a game I want to smash my tv.

It looks freaking amazing!

I am a bit sad that it's a cross-gen release rather than an all out PS5/Xs game, but at least it's cross-buy and it's been in dev for a while so I understand it.

Never played the Souls games nor Bloodbourne, but I’ve heard they’re ridiculously hard. Is that true?

Hopefully this one is more similar to God of War or the Middle-earth games (difficulty-wise).

@ImBatman4realz - They're not hard; they just require that you invest yourself in them to hone your skills. Everyone can do it, for as long as they have other things to keep them invested (like the setting or the roleplay elements).
