Neill Blomkamp's CONVICTION - AN ANTHEM STORY Live-Action Short Has Been Released

Ahead of tomorrow's limited launch for Anthem, BioWare, EA, and Oats Studios have debuted the eagerly awaited live-action short from acclaimed sci-fi director Neill Blomkamp - Conviction. Given the director's experience in the genre, excitement was high heading into today's premiere and Blomkamp definitely delivered.

Conviction is an original story set decades before the beginning of Anthem, introducing us to BioWare's intriguing new world. That said, it does feel like more of a live-action trailer and since I haven't yet played the game, it left me with more questions that I hope will be answered in the actual game. In any case, Blomkamp's short does an incredible job of bringing to life Anthem, showcasing the futuristic tech, and setting up what appears to be an incredible sci-fi story.

From Neill Blomkamp, Oats Studios and BioWare comes a live-action story of survival set in the world of Anthem, decades before the events of the game.

We know, based on what EA previously shared about the short film, that the group of freelancers we see in Javelin exosuits are taking on the villainous Monitor, head of the Dominion faction. And as we previously learned, The Dominion is an aggressive military group led by The Monitor, who believes that he knows how to properly handle the Anthem of Creation. It's all incredible build-up to Anthem's release on February 22 (or February 15 for those eligible for early access).

Now can we please get Fox to finally greenlight Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie?

This is a movie or short film that I would definitely watch, Blomkamp's visuals here are nothing short of excellent. But yeah, this did feel like a trailer and I was hoping for a short closer in length to say Rakka.

I'm still confused. Is this the "short" or this a trailer for the short?

I'd definitely watch this!

That was a jumbled mess. I didn't even know this was an ad for a video game until the end.

I haven't been following Anthem in the slightest. It just seems like another Destiny (like some hollow, greedy studio gig). That being said though, I'd love for it to be great - because, appearance and concept-wise, it looks fantastic.

@Nebula - it's got it's own vibe and gameplay wise its somewhat similar but fundamentally its night and day. Check out some of the extended gameplay videos. It just looks so beautiful and fun. It's got some bugs still but most MMO's do at launch. But it looks so bad ass.

@Dart - I've pretty much only seen the weird fake-gamer demo when it was first shown off during E3. The flying looks awesome but I've heard the combat isn't great, all enemies being bullet-spongy or something.

Imma just wait until the game and its reviews are out. Hopefully it's good, but if not then at least I didn't get my hopes up much.

@Soos - Yeah, it's just one of those basic things like The Division. If you know gaming, then you know not to get your hopes up for something like this.

@HeavyMetal4Life - soooooooo many amazing fleshed out brilliant characters and character arcs in the Old Republic games. People always say how Star Wars is one dimensional and played out and formulaic and boring have absolutely NO IDEA how wrong they are. Star Wars is as deep and complex as any story you could possibly ever imagine, and the Kotor series is proof of that.

District 9 is the only Blomkamp film that I like, but the dude makes visual masterpieces. I hope he doesn't [frick] up RoboCop. Though, that property is already in the toilet.

Pretty generic story and cringe characters, but again, the visuals are impeccable:

Hey, Alien producers:

This trailer made Anthem look good, disappointingly the game isn't fun. The first trailer for the game made it look like it would be a single player game, with the option of co-op, but that wasn't the case and seeing as I'm not a fan of online only games, or multiplayer games, strictly single player, this isn't for me.

Can we get the real Alien 3 with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn waking up 35-40 years later, but they all aged due to a malfunction.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 2/14/2019, 2:42 PM
@Timerider84 - hell, its doesn't even have to be 35 to 40 years later. What happens if its 350 to 400 years later and they awaken to realize that the outpost they were returning to is overrun by Aliens and they are the last hope for humanity there. And being in 'cryo' sleep for so long the deageing process broke down. Would also allow for an adult Newt.

This was clever but I lost interest. Mind, Blomkamp's other "film shorts" Firebase and Rakka are brilliant ideas. Still not watched Zygote yet.
