WONDER WOMAN 1984: Chris Pine Sheds Some Light On His Very Different Steve Trevor In The Sequel

We don't know how it happens, but Chris Pine's Steve Trevor returns from the dead in Wonder Woman 1984 and the actor now sheds some light on why "the tables have turned" for the character in the sequel...

Variety recently visited the set of Wonder Woman 1984 and the trade caught up with both director Patty Jenkins and star Chris Pine.

"These days, there are difficult things to shoot," the filmmaker says in regards to shooting a series of huge setpieces in quick succession during the final days of production on the sequel in London. "This is not that difficult; it’s just the directions and the multitasking. And it is so interesting how normal it is once you have a complicated plan."

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the follow-up is how Steve Trevor returns after his death in Wonder Woman. After all, it was a pretty definitive moment and he's somehow not aged since World War I despite the fact that a good seventy odd years have passed.

"This one is a little different for me tonally," he teases. "The tables are turned, and I’m more of the deer in the headlights." In other words, we're getting a reversal of the typical leading-man scenario which sounds just about right for a female-led blockbuster like this.

Pulling the DCEU out of Snyder's original intentions is like watching a team of oxen pull a wagon through knee-deep mud. Every bit of ground gained is a gargantuan effort.

And maybe they find some way to make their World War Steve coming back storyline work, but you just get the feeling like they would rather not be saddled with the burden of Snyder's continuity or the gymnastic retcons required to keep Chris Pine in this franchise.

Or like holding open the iris of a neutron star as it closes. whilst allowing the energy to flow through

Give or take lol

@BlackBeltJones - You know, it doesn't really hold a candle to the other Russo-Chris-Pulling-Two-Things-Together moment, though. It's like Hemsworth saw this:

...and told Feige: "I want to do one of those." But it's just not the same.

@Spock0Clock - oh ya, it pales in comparison.

@Spock0Clock - Aquaman was totally entertaining. Just make 'em one at a time and everything will be fine. What they found is trying to force JL in without the lubrication of well developed characters who have been established in their own movies will get you slapped every time.

So they keep the fish out of water theme...only it’s Trevor having to learn about the 1980s from Diana. Like Mini-Malls, Tetris, Music and Fashion.

Steve! Your ride...ain’t over yet!

More like "Chris Pine sheds ZERO light on Steve Trevor". Aside from him maybe being a bit of a wuss.

It would fit if he became a Green Lantern and was saved by a power ring. His personality is a fit and he was a fighter pilot.

But he will be important (I hope) to help with Diana's character development.

I'm loving this soft reboot! Good for WB. Do the exact opposite of Snyder and you'll be just fine lol
