DC's Wonder Woman was both a massive hit with critics and audiences (the first DC film since Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises to accomplish both). Patty Jenkin's Wonder Woman grossed over $800 million worldwide and is the highest grossing CBM origin story ever. The profit a movie studio makes from a blockbuster depends on a variety of things. Deadline Hollywood has calculated the numbers from industry insiders to find out the exact profit Wonder Woman made.
The film ended up grossing a whopping $413 million domestic and $822 million worldwide. From that, the studio pocked $372.90 million. In addition, the movie earned another $286.20 million from Home Entertainment and Television revenue. This brings Wonder Woman to an overall revenue of $659.10 million.
How much did the film cost? It had a production cost of $149 million, and another $158 million was spent on marketing. Add in $39.50 million from video release and another $59.70 million in fees to the actors and producers. Wonder Woman had a total cost of $406.20 million. In comparison, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cost the studio $575 million and Suicide Squad cost the studio $459.85 million.
Using basic subtraction, Deadline came up with the total profit of Wonder Woman: $252.90 million. That makes it not only the most profitable film in the DCEU, but the most profitable CBM of 2017 as well.
