In a preview of IGN Movies upcoming reports on their X-Men: First Class set visit, the site have revealed a few brief details earlier today, including the following comments from Matthew Vaughn and details on a scene that sees Azazel attack the mysterious Man in Black's headquarters. For more, be sure to head on over to the site by clicking below.

"This is going to be very different. What I'm doing no one has done in superhero films. It's James Bond, it's a political thriller and it's an X-Men movie. It's not like the other X-Men movies which I think is important. I think they need to sort of take on a new... you know, what Batman Begins did for all those Batman movies? We bloody well need it. I'm not saying it's going to be as good as Batman Begins, but it's the same sort of attitude."

Here is a brief description of just one of the action packed scenes that they were lucky enough to be a witness to when they visited the set of the highly anticipated (and somewhat controversial) comic book movie.

We did however get to witness Vaughn shooting an action-packed set-piece involving an assault on the MIB HQ.

The sequence in question revolved around a group of Shaw's men - led by the devlish Azael (Jason Flemyng) - laying waste to a team of security guards before attacking the compound's recreation room.

Inside, a clearly terrified group of young mutants panic, with their number including Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), Hank (Nicholas Hoult), Angel (Zoe Kravitz), Darwin (Edi Gathegi), Alex (Lucas Till) and Cassidy (Caleb Landry Jones).

X-Men: First Class is set to be released on June 3, later this year!

Well at least he's honest. Let's face it, if he said it was going to be better than Nolan's Batman movies we would laugh in his face. He's being a realist. People are hating on two minutes of footage and a handful of pictures. With the time he had and the FOX's X-Men continuity he had to make fit he's done what he could. He's a talented director. A big comic fanboy. As is the writer. I have trust that we will get one hell of a film given what resources and time he had.

I have faith in this movie and I'll be seeing it...maybe twice. Maybe more.

I love the things that people pull out of these quotes and interviews and turn into a negative spin. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth could compare Thor to his bowel movement and it would be called Epic.

dfresh - 3/9/2011, 7:20 AM
One would think that him saying he's taking the franchise in a totally different direction would be inspiring to those that seem to hate the previous movies. Especially when drawing comparisons to what Batman Begins has done, which I'm sure you all love.

Seriously dfresh, people take whatever they want out of CBM news. I bet that if Thor gets raped by critics and X-Men is nominated for a bunch of academy awards Thor will still be called "Epic" while X-Men will get the big "Fail!"

@Craptain America: Goldman only got involved in the final script stage (Vaughn's fixer?). She worked on a story from Singer (who is not a comic fan, as we know), and from a script that 3 others worked on:

Writing credits
(in alphabetical order)
Jane Goldman screenplay
Ashley Miller screenplay
Jamie Moss screenplay
Bryan Singer story
Zack Stentz screenplay

I trust Goldman to improve on what she had, and Vaughn to make the best of what he has to work with, but Singer's involvement and the number of hands on the screenplay do give me cause for concern.

I'm withholding judgement until I see it for myself, and I really like Vaughn as a director (his music choices and the action sequences will be awesome, that's for sure), but the words "Singer" and "Fox" temper any potential optimism in the equation for me.

Just take the characters chosen, for example. You can tell they were Singer's choices because they would NOT be the choices an X-Men fan would make (even if you wanted to go pre-Scott and Jean et al.)

Good superhero film? Maybe. Maybe not. We'll see. Not really going to be the real X-Men - "the X-Men you always wanted to see" - though whatever happens. Elseworlds. What If...?

Maybe Marvel will get it back and reboot, maybe they won't and Fox will keep it forever and just keep churning them out, so considering this may be the ONLY iteration of the X-Men we get on the big screen , for some of us that's a bit of a shame and lessens our enthusiasm somewhat. Not to the extremes some people display, but whereas we could genuinely be excited about a movie (e.g. Thor, Cap, The Avengers), in this case, based on experience and a deeply entrenched sense of 'meh - it's not really the X-Men', it's difficult to get excited, truly.

Imagine the Avengers movie featuring Wonder Man, Tigra, Iron Man and Dr Druid. And this was meant to be their origin movie. WTF? Right? This is how some of the X-fans feel about this. And that's perfectly understandable in my book, however the movie turns out.

Keith, lots of movies have numerous people working on their scripts but not all of them are credited. We will see how many of them are credited for this movie closer to it's release. And Singer can still write a good story despite his lacking an overabundance of comic knowledge. We all know already that this isn't going to be 100% comic book accurate, but it still has the potential to be a really good movie.

And even though this is called "First Class", it's a Magneto and Professor X movie that merely FEATURES the beginnings of the X-men.

@Keith, I do appreciate your breakdown and reasoning. You are not the fanatical and illogical hater as too many around here are.

However, I have to disagree with one point. You say if the Avengers movie was released featuring a slew of randoms it would be comparable. However, we've already had a movie titled "X-Men" featuring most of the core members that people know and want. We've had 3 of them in fact. So this is by no means the first introduction to the gang.

A better comparison would be if after 3 Avengers movies with the original crew, Marvel decided to go back to WWII era and make a movie about the Invaders, but brand the movie with Avengers somewhere in the title. That's all this is. Would that be so horrible? Honestly, the root of so much of the uproar is just the fact that they chose the title First Class, which is laughable. It was just a phrase that sounded cool!

The trailer was good but on paper everything about this movie is a cluster frick. I hope the whole movie is a enjoyable as the trailer. That said I'm still not sure how far past the changes from source and established movie continuity I will be able to get.

@Ryguy: I know what you're saying. I'm not one of those who are 'hating' on it before it comes out. If it's a good superhero movie then I'll take it as just that. I can do that. :)

But I do fully understand why some people, especially the proper X-Men fans, are less than enthused about it.

Too many arbitrary changes which, while they could 'work' in their own right, will inevitably leave many with a deep empty feeling of "if only..." inside them. ;)
KeithM
KeithM - 3/9/2011, 8:43 AM
@dfresh: My point about "these are NOT the choices an X-Men fan would make, even if you go pre-Scott and Jean, etc." still stands.

Stick 10 X-Men fans in a room and tell them to fight it out until they pick a Magneto/Charles pre-X-Men co-cast.

(Better still, stick Joss Whedon, Grant Morrison, Chris Claremont and Stan Lee in a room and tell THEM to fight it out...) :D

How many of them would choose Alex Summers? Angel-girl? Whoever-the-hell some of those others are? Some are obvious. Moira. Hellfire Club. Hank pre-fur. Others are random at best.

Despite all that, like I said, I'll give it a chance at least and if it's an entertaining movie, I'll enjoy it for that, but still hope that Marvel get to 'do it right' one day. :)

I don't mind CBM's making changes, I really don't, but this flick has gone TOO far in taking liberties! with that said, I will not be seeing this movie first weekend; I'll wait for all of your reviews! But, I think, from all I've seen, its gonna be a visually appealing stinker!

x3 was bad, so bad in fact what a it's hard not to welcome this film, just for the fact that it will be better...it's just there's so much resistance to this new first class line up and this original story because x men have hundreds of stories that would be better on the big screen...all these "happy go lucky, look at the bright side morons" are a bunch of suckers, downing loyalist who are upset at this film's premise...when someone butchers a beloved story, hatred from the fan base is rightfully deserved!!! Dfresh and RyGuy especially, that's what I've said in so many posts! But I get called a "troll" for it.

It having "First Class" in it's name, and not have the original 5 is the MAIN complaint everyone seems to have.

I have faith in it though, and expect it to branch off into a trilogy in it's own. Which by the end of this "First Class Trilogy" we will see in some way the original five working together as the newly dubbed X-Men, thus pleasing the fanboys and critics alike.
