Logan has gone through the ringer over the years, and I'm not just talking about the adventures. He's been attached to a franchise that has been a rollercoaster of quality since 2000. He had to fight a disfigured version of deadpool atop a shitty CGI nuclear power plant in Origins, dealt with the Juggernaught in The Last Stand, and fought a terrible CGI monster in The Wolverine. But here we are, with his last movie, simply entitled Logan. Such a simple title fits such a simple and humble movie. Hugh Jackman's performance in this film is arguably Oscar worthy; he puts so much into his final outting as the iconic X-men character that it feels real. Its doubtful this film will get recognized due to its status as "a superhero movie" but one can hope. But Logan isn't really a superhero movie; its a devestating tale of a deterioating legend on his last breath trying to find a purpose in life. Logan is by far the best superhero movie since The Dark Knight Rises (and you could make a case that its better) and looking at the line up from both DC and the MCU, I doubt they'll produce anything that'll top what James Mangold has done here.
