The Five Best Scenes In X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

The Five Best Scenes In X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Every great movie has a few scenes that could be identifiable as superior. What are the best scenes in X-Men: Days Of Future Past? Check out my thoughts after the jump.... Oh, and there will be Spoilers... duh.

Editorial Opinion

X-Men: Days Of Future Past opened already and it has gotten phenomenal reviews. The movie is filled with scenes that are emotional, funny, and full of action. Here are the five best scenes of the movie for me (keep in mind that this is my opinion, not yours). SPOILERS

5. Charles Meets His Future Self
Kicking off the top five is the scene in wh
ich Charles looks through Wolverine's mind to see everything he has been through, and ends up making contact with his future self. I don't really think I can describe in words how much this scene really touched me. It was not only epic to see these two versions of the character connect, but it was really heart-warming to see the older Xavier tell his younger self about the future and how he must never give up his hope. It has been made clear throughout the movie that this younger Charles just isn't the same as the future version, but after this moment you can see how they progressively get more and more alike, especially his final moments with Raven (read more about that later). James McAvoy has actually become one of my favorite actors with this role, and the "depression" half of the movie as I call it really helped influence that decision. It proves that these newer actors have something special in them.

4. Everyone Dies
The first minutes of the movie had me smili
ng so hard. It reunited the whole cast and did an excellent job in doing it. I thought they would have to kind of dumb things down for newer audiences to get, but instead we just went right to seeing them doing what they've been known to do forever. So by the time the movie was nearing the end, I was shaking to see their fates. The future part of the climax was done perfectly. We saw the X-Men fighting off Sentinels outside as the others stayed with Wolverine's body. The final moments between Magneto and Professor X were really emotional, but not quite as much as the death of every single mutant. Sure, we saw this earlier in the movie, but it was more emotional here. Why? Because the stakes where higher. Near the beginning, we saw just one of the many deaths they had to go through as Kitty kept sending Bishop back to warn them earlier then re-locate. Boring life, huh? But the final battle against the Sentinels involved the end of their life for good.

3. Quicksilver's Prison Break
I was one of the many people to go "ah
, Quicksilver is unnecessary, he was shoe-horned in, his costume sucks, it won't be as good as Whedon's" etc.. I was also one of the many people to admit mistake. Super Speed is hard to get right on film because you need to be able to see things from the character's perspective to truly get a good experience. We ended up seeing this amazingly choreographed scene where Quicksilver stops a bunch of guards from killing Wolverine (puh), Charles, and Erik by spending about a second or two flying around the room doing both hilarious and awesome moves to make every enemy attack backfire. I was laughing so hard when Quicksilver finally stopped running to see the whole room fall to pieces. They nailed the character, no questions. From the TV Spots I thought the scene when they visit him in his house was gonna be so cheesy and not funny. But instead the whole theater was laughing at every little thing he did. It was definitely a highlight of the movie, and miles better than any of the 'jokes' in another major comic book movie this summer (Spidey 2)...

2. Wolverine Awakes
Does this one really need to be explained?
I mean, really? Does it? As epic as it was for me to see the original cast together again, it was even more special to see Jean and Cyclops again. I was literally so in awe of the way this was handled that I stood up and clapped when the film rolled to credits. I mean it. I was clapping and cheering. I've heard some people at my theater critisize the fact that Wolverine's reaction to everything was 'cheesy.' While I kind of get where they're coming at, I will have to disagree. It's quite the opposite. The Avengers round shot, Bane breaking the Bat, a certain moment from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and the Man of Steel taking off, are all moments that fanboys can get all giddy over because of how epic it looked to see brought to life, but all those are surpassed by Wolverine walking down the halls of the X-Mansion as he passes all of his old friends. And that last moment when Wolverine tells Xavier that he has returned to the future is also brilliance. It is also the scene with the most potential for the future, so it can't be ignored. This is where nothing will ever be the same.

1. Charles Convinces Mystique
Coming up at number one is the final few mo
ments of the past, the end of the climax, as Mystique once again confronts Charles and gets convinced to stop. After seeing quite a few times throughout the course of the film how the impact of his loss had on him, I expected to see a very beautiful moment between the two before they part ways. While they may make contact again in future films, this is a great ending for now. You may all think that I was wrong to choose this scene as my number one moment from the movie, but you know what?... I don't care. I thought the moment they shared before Wolverine went back to the future was just so emotional that I legitimately shed a tear. For real. The last time a tear rolled down my cheek during a movie was when The Avengers assembled together because that was just so friggin badass on the big screen (it also nearly happened at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it ultimately didn't quite come out). I thought this scene topped everything else in the movie. It reminds me of the ending to First Class, in that the final part of the climax is less physical action and more emotional action. For me, Charles and Mystique's relationship is a highlight of the new films and they steal every scene together. Amazing scene. Bravo.

I thought what was so great about the Quicksilver slow motion run was that he's obviously having a blast, but seems to almost forget that he's supposed to be stopping/redirecting the bullets. It's an afterthought and the LAST thing he really does there, like "oh yeah".

I think the Paris scene was PERFECT, legitimately perfect. There's a lot of emotion poured into it, and I think they succeeded in making you (or just me) feel them. Xavier stops Mystique from killing Trask, and although she gets tasered, he thinks it's a victory. We see their reunion of sorts, and Charles promises to protect her, promises she's safe now.

Then Erik pulls a super dick move.

At that moment, Erik is no longer the anti-hero/anti-villain who has some hope of redemption in store - this is Magneto, the monster. And when when Beast pounces on him, nearly drowning him, you find yourself actually rooting for Hank to do it. Then he pulls the metal around Hank to restrain him, putting him on display for every human to see, like a zoo animal.

Never mind Singer's closeup cameo (he gives himself one, but not Rogue?), Erik escapes while Mystique manages to hobble away, now on the run for her life.

Is it just me or was anyone else getting Flash vibes from Quiksilver? All I kept thinking was this is Flash in X-Men lol.

Agreed, man.

Even though it was clear that they were setting up for some type of reset for the timeline, those deaths were like a punch to the gut.

Quicksilver was fun and all, but when you really think about it, he was one of the most powerful mutants in the film.

All of the scenes you listed were great. I might add that the scene in which they first meet Quicksilver was cool as he sold the character to the audience and somewhat stole the show.

On a side note, I have a bit of a plot hole issue with the Magneto jail break. For Quicksilver to be listening to music on his earphones, the song would have to be playing for less than a second, which means he would have to have a music player that could fast track the music at nearly light speed.

for me.....

anything in the future,especially blink

x-men everybody dies

anything involving magneto

sentinel action in the 70s

apocalypse after the credit scene

quicksilver scene was good but not better than nightcrawler in the white house,i did like the song choice though.

Great list, I'd give an honorable mention to any scene involving Fassbender, Jackman and Mcavoy. Those 3 were just ridiculous and I thought it was so smart how they put Wolverine in the mentor role.

I would have added the plane scene where Eric and Charles hash out their abandonment issues.

The actress who played Blink said she's signed on for 5 movies, so we'll be seeing more of her.

If you can call it a moment, I'd have to say my favorite would be them completely wiping X-3 from history. It was a long overdue reprisal, and a blatant middle finger to Brett Ratner for that catastrophe of a movie.
And you know what, it couldn't have been more satisfying.

Seeing my boy Cyclops alive and well, damn I shed one damn happy tear.
I could be wrong about this, but Since Mystique is the one that took Wolverine while disguised as Stryker, does that mean the 1st Wolverine movie didn't happen?
I would really hope so, 'cause it was a very very disappointing movie as well.

@HankPymp Lauren Schuler Donner who is like a producer or someone of DOFP stated that X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine can be forgotten about as they are considered non-canon

@HankPymp

yes it was said that Origins and X-3 have been erased from the timeline, but since Mystique is now disguised as Stryker and has Wolverine now, i hope we get a new and more awesome retelling of him going through the Weapon X Project this time around :D

I wish we had a good 20 more minutes of future scenes added to it

Maybe on a directors cut

@ToxicCap thanks for clearing that up for me.
That's a real smart move on their part. Seems like they're finally getting a real grasp after all this time.

@Bane you and me both. The only things I dug about Origins were Sabretooth, and his fights with Logan.
Everything else was just meh. I could see Mystique fitting into that re-telling very well actually. They just need to shy away from throwaway mutant cameos. A villain like Omega Red would be a treat to see him go up against.
Or even The Wendigo, to bring out the more feral aspects of Wolverine.

I love all your top scenes and agree! This movie is so full of greatness though its hard to list the top ones. Any scene with James McAvoy killing it has to be in there. Dude had me all emo like him lol. Fantastic acting by James truly!

Nice article, good sir. I agree with you on everything. What a powerful and moving movie. I honestly thought I wasn't going to like it that much and be disappointed, but it blew me away! I hope Apocalypse is just as good, if not better.

I also loved the scene with the airplane. You can't forget about that one! Just seeing Charles and Magneto confront each other was really emotional. And Logan in the background holding on for dear life (since he hates flying) was pretty funny.

THE ENTIRE FREAKING MOVIE!!!!!!

1: Anything involving Magneto. Magneto rules the Earth in this movie. I nearly stood up and cheered when he got on the train with the sentinels and started implanting metal into them.

2: Anything involving Blink. As someone said above, "I need more Blink in my life!" She was just soooooo awesome. The scene where she is using her portals to make the Sentinels defeat themselves is incredible.

3: Quicksilver and the Magneto escape. Beyond spectacular!

4: All of the future battles, but particularly the dreadness of the Sentinels, Bishop using other mutants to power up, the Magneto and Storm combo with the X-jet, Iceman in iceform and using ice-slides, etc.

5: The way that the trailers really didn't sell out the plot of the movie and the way Wolverine is the lead but doesn't overshadow the other chraracters.
ChuckV
ChuckV - 5/27/2014, 8:20 AM
Yeah, LOVED Quicksilver being used to break out the notorious Magneto, (who really thought he'd be helpful??) but no one thought HE'D be the perfect person to stop Mystique from shooting Trask with his super speed? (Future Magneto or Xavier could've clued Logan into this before sending him back, but hey, THAT sort of logic would ruin the story, right?)

DOFP works great if you don't think to much about it.

Whatever.

I disagree with your number 4. That was the part I liked the least. The sound design felt thin within the overall mix, the action in this sequence didn't wow me and I didn't care about any of their fates later on since I already watched them die once. Kind of redundant in my opinion. Would've preferred they stay dead and rotate more mutants in instead if they weren't even going to develop those characters in the first place. Beyond the first 15 minutes, I really liked the movie. There's always something in the Xmen movies I don't like, this one was just very minor. First Class to me was ruined by banshee and fireball breathing Zooey Kravitz. Origins... Where to begin? The Wolverine was the final third. Last Stand was juggernaut. X2 was the child projection. Xmen 1 was acceptable since it was the first and it's okay to make mistakes (we all know it's the storm joke though)
WinterSoldier24
WinterSoldier24 - 5/27/2014, 9:27 AM
Seeing Cyclops alive and well was probably my favorite scene. I hope they take better care of him in future installments.

But, the entire movie was great. When Charles was telling Wolvie, "I don't want your future!" that felt like a punch to the gut. The way that line was delivered-- wow.

IDK, I was too busy enjoying the movie to have any gripes against it as non really jumped out at me like the way "Deadpool" with his optic blasts did.
