Apparently Steven Spielberg Hopes To Direct The INDIANA JONES Reboot With Chris Pratt

Though they caution that it's very early days Deadline reckon that, depending on the script, Steven Spielberg might just return to direct the new Indiana Jones movie with Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt in the title role. Click on for more...

This might be a bit of a shaky one given the details (or lack thereof), but even the prospect of Steven Spielberg directing another Indiana Jones movie is a very exciting one indeed. Back in January we reported on the rumor that Disney wanted GOTG's Chris Pratt to take over from Harrison Ford as the intrepid archaeologist in their planned reboot, and now Deadline reckon the man who brought us the previous four entries in the series might just return to helm it -- providing the as yet unwritten script meets his approval.

Spielberg has a lot on his plate at the moment (word is he's going to attempt to squeeze in an adaptation of Thank You For Your Service before tackling Roald Dahl's The BFG) so we'll have to wait and see how this pans out. It's true that the last movie (The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) is generally regarded as being... well, crap, but with some new blood and a good story maybe Spielberg will be able to recapture some of that old Indy magic.

Chris Pratt cannot lead an action movie as an action hero.

Bradley Cooper could, but not Chris.

I just hope Lucas stays away from writing the script and just has characters created by George Lucas and nothing else.

Let's get Frank Darabont involved as well! He deserves a shot after Lucas screwed him over on the last one. I'm warming up to the idea of Pratt as Indiana Jones though. Originally Steven Spielberg and George Lucas intended Indiana Jones to be the American James Bond, so what is wrong with recasting him?

Pratt or Cooper could do it, either one is good.

@AlexanderLykins

I don't see why they have to reboot it. I've always thought Indy as a character that can be have his adventures be told throughout the course of his life (ranging from his early days in the Young Indiana Jones series to his older days in Crystal Skull). I think it would be plausible to cast a new, younger actor and tell stories of him from his prime or even younger days. He doesn't need a reboot, more stories from the already established continuity can still be told.

Everything Spielberg touches is platinum. If he directs you know it's going to be good.

Perfect casting imo.

IF it happens.

I think it really needs to be a relatively unknown actor. Unfortunately Hollywood is less likely to take that kind of chance with the franchise. If you remember, Ford had only really acted in a few movies-Star Wars and American Graffiti when he was cast. Being somewhat unknown allowed him to put his mark on the character and "become" Indy. None of the stars being considered can do that.

And honestly I rather see a new story from this continuity or a completely separate action/adventure film all together than an Indiana Jones reboot.

I agree with @mrblackjack. Indiana Jones doesn't need a reboot. Recast and tell different stories of him like Bond.

If you make this a prequel to the films that have been done prior, you box yourself in as to what you can and can't have in it. If you reboot it entirely, there are NO restrictions as to what you want in the film. I'm sure most people want them to start over fresh. I think that's what we'll get, as opposed to a prequel film.

A new trilogy with a new actor is what I'm hoping for. I love Ford, but his time is over, maybe not for Han Solo...yet! But, for Indiana Jones, it is.
