Thor screenwriter Mark Protosevich next comic book related project will be Freakshow, which revolves around five young protagonists who are turned into mutants by a chemical explosion and must then decide whether to use their newfound powers to save the city or exact revenge on those responsible after the world's only superhero is killed.
Freakshow is also known as Kevin Ellsworth, a mutant who has appeared in various Marvel comics, sometimes as a student of Professor X. He has the ability to transform into a variety of beasts and monsters.
According to Variety, the film will be based on an upcoming three-issue miniseries by David Server, Jackson Lanzing and Marvel illustrator Joe Suitor. The series will be published by Ape Entertainment, allowing the producers to manage the film rights independently from Marvel Studios.
The site also reports that Protosevich is eyeing the property as a potential directing vehicle. A promotional launch for the series is planned for this week’s San Diego Comic-Con with an on-sale target date of January.
UPDATE:
To clear up the confusion about whether this comic book series and planned movie adaptation has anything to do with Marvel Studios the co-creator of Freakshow, David Server, got in touch and told me the following.
"There's some confusion about the book - while our artist has done work for Marvel in the past, this project has no connection to the Marvel Comics character of the same name. This is a creator-owned property with all new characters and an original story."
"I really hope you and your readers enjoy the book when it hits!"
