The Lone Ranger, directed by Gore Verbinski and featuring Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid, the Lone Ranger, is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The Lone Ranger is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and hits theaters July 3rd, 2013.

Did anyone really expect this movie to be good anyway? This looks almost as bad as Wild Wild West. I will just wait for Pacific Rim thank you.

So ridiculous. I actually heard of the Schmoes from CBM and I love them. I watch more of their podcasts then I do the reviews but they are credible to me. Anyone who has Sean Astin and Katee Sackhoff on the same show, I am sold. But that being said, I am going to go ahead and believe that this movie sucks. Thanks guys.

Not surprised this movie is getting bad review so far. Judging by the trailers it looked like Pirates of the Caribbean in the West.

Funny about the people who say they're not credible cause they clearly consider themselves avergae guys reviewing movies hence "schmoes". But I love these guys and almost alway agree with them so i take their opinion with alot of consideration.

Everyone has their favorite critic or critic group. I personally do not like the Schmoes since I find them to be cocky and annoying at times. By no means I hate them since I simply just don't watch their material. If people like them, then that's great.

How in gods green earth are some of you clowns speaking as if RT is making the MOS review, the Lone Ranger review, etc. etc. Its an average compilation of many many professional reviews. Its not an average from 5 or 10, but many many reviews. The common denominator usually prevails in showing the true quality of the movie. Can you argue where each of our thresholds are? Yes...but if its in the 50s or lower, look out, because common themes crop up, and there become VALID problems/issues.

Off topic, how do you quote something in those yellow boxes like film descriptions etc (see above for Lone Ranger bio)? It would be useful to know when writing articles.

Lone Ranger looked horrible from the get-go. I don't need RT, or other critics, to tell me it's shit.

Box office wise I predict another John Carter type of flop.

Now this movie very well may be bad, but I think it's total BULL to say that it looked bad from the beginning!

The trailers look good, and they still look good. The problem I saw from the very beginning was that they try and make it funny, WHY!

The Lone Ranger should be a serious hardcore western adventure, nothing remotely humorous or funny about it!

I don't care what these two guys say, I'm going to see it for myself, but to me the insertion of humor is the major problem!

I'm sure you guys don't remember that leaked review from a few months back, but here it is, right on the money, as I had a chance to see it too a while back (by the way, I'm not hating in the least when I say this, but it was genuinely more entertaining than Ironman 3):
-----
The Lone Ranger is worthy of your July 4th movie going dollars, it's that simple. At it's current cut, it's a little too intense for your 4-7 year olds likely, as there are two scenes in particular that seem a little unsettling, one involving offscreen cannibalism and another displayed as a silhouetted throat slitting. Will those scenes make it into the final cut? Probably, this is a PG-13 rendition of The Lone Ranger after all, but with that said, the initial impression could be made that its all gloom and grit. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's very light hearted and only dark when the villainous Butch Cavendish strolls onto screen or is referenced by the characters. William Fitchner is absolutely incredible and leads to the strongest performance of this film, his makeup makes him hardly recognizable. In fact, because this is the 1800s, everyone has insane beards that make them unrecognizable, a true feat accomplished by the exceptional costume and grooming departments. The cinematography is excellent as is the score and surprisingly the CG. If there was any gripe to be made, it's that around the 3/4 mark the pacing drags a bit, but this is unavoidable as it lends to building the final conflict of the film. There is a Tonto origin story that slows everything down a bit, but like I said, is absolutely necessary to the overall structure of the plot. There is one sequence that feels like it could be the final action piece that was actually slightly frustrating that it didn't end right then and there, but with a few laughs thrown in, the real climax hits and all I can say is, "strap yourself in for a wild ride". When people say, "The Lone Ranger", undoubtedly an image from the climactic finale will pop into your head and likely bring a grin to your face.

-----

Having seen it, again, I 100% agree. If you go see a movie on the 4th, this is worth it w/ the family. It screeches to a halt at the third quarter, but if I've said it once, I'll say it again: a good movie can be sullied by a piss-poor ending, and a mediocre film can be good w/ a great, strong finish. This movie, I think, falls under the latter.

Don't see it kirbyfan, the humor is widely used and it isn't as funny as the Pirates humor

LOL, you fanboys are laughable. Rotten Tomatoes and the critics are useless until they agree with your own biases and preferences, at which point they will be used to confirm your preconceived opinion.

Good explanation. But with this crowd any attempt to be reasonable or logical goes down the shitter.

I caught the 7 pm "midnight screening" an have to say that The Lone Ranger was perfectly fine as a two 1/2 hour escape from reality that is satisfying enough when you're watching it but somewhat forgetable after leaving the theater.

Depp had some funny moments but the film did start to drag at one point and his Tonto is just not the magnetic presence Jack Sparrow is.

Is the film worth a look? Yes,but it will not go down as a huge summer hit coming out the same weekend as despicable me 2.
