The first trailer for Sony's new animated adventure Connected is now online.

The fun-looking sci-fi comedy follows the Mitchel family as they embark on a road-trip to drive daughter Katie (Abbi Jacobson) across the country for her first day of college in the middle of what turns out to be a robotic uprising. The cast also features Danny McBride as Katie's father, and Maya Rudolph as her mother.

Connected was directed by Mike Rianda, who also co-wrote the script with Jeff Rowe. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's Phil Lord and Chris Miller are on board as producers.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you make of it in the comments.

Sony Pictures Animation’s Connected is an original animated comedy from director Mike Rianda (Gravity Falls) and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Lego Movie), about an everyday family’s struggle to relate while technology rises up around the world! When Katie Mitchell (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a creative outsider, is accepted into the film school of her dreams, her plans to meet “her people” at college are upended when her nature-loving dad Rick (voiced by Danny McBride) determines the whole family should drive Katie to school together and bond as a family one last time. Katie and Rick are joined by the rest of the family, including Katie’s wildly positive mom Linda (voiced by Maya Rudolph), her quirky little brother Aaron (voiced by Mike Rianda), and the family’s delightfully chubby pug Monchi for the ultimate family road trip. Suddenly, the Mitchells’ plans are interrupted by a tech uprising: all around the world, the electronic devices people love – from phones, to appliances, to an innovative new line of personal robots – decide it’s time to take over. With the help of two friendly malfunctioning robots, the Mitchells will have to get past their problems and work together to save each other and the world!

Okay, the premise sounds pretty funny. Directed by the creator of Gravity Falls and produced by Lord and Miller?

@Mrcool210 - Rianda was a writer on Gravity Falls, not the creator. That guy's working on a show for Netflix right now

I like the animation, really creative. First half of the trailer was interesting... Second half lost me.

@KWilly - I kept thinking “I swear the title said sci-fi” then the uprising happened lol

Having one of the Gravity Falls guys is a plus, and that doggie is stupidly adorable ❤
Sadly I'm not enterely sold on the premise, it can easily fall into "technology bad" OK Boomer territory. But I guess we'll have to see about that.
They really took notes from Spider-verse in terms of animation, really smart way to differentiate themselves from the usual CG animated movies.

The animation looks beautiful, but the plot seems a bit... stuffed? Maybe it's just trailer editing. I trust Lord/Miller though, and if they had enough faith to produce this then I'm sure it'll be great

I'm digging the animation, but as soon as the robot uprising plot kicked in I kinda felt my interest fading.

@Necropolitan - oh, come on, you never experienced a robot uprising while on vacation?

Looks like Sony’s best Pixar-clone attempt yet.

Not that I'm complaining. There's few movies that deserve being imitated, and Lampoon's Vacation is one of 'em.

This is the most millennial looking movie, starting from the hipster dad and the art-school girl with markers instead of Nail polish. Aside from that it seems like a beautfuly animated movie, possibly with warm-hearted moments sprinkled in.

Love the animation and the art direction! The road-trip comedy with a heart 1st half had me hooked, but it lost me a bit with the robot revolution.

Extremely OOT: I just saw Harley Quinn: BOP and did the movie say Black Mask vote for Bernie Sanders or that he hated Harley for voting for him? It caught my eye, but I didn't get what it meant. Also everyone should go see Invisible Man, the ending sucks, but the movie is great otherwise and nothing is ruined by it.
