I will say that this movie did sink down the toilet but a website known as Ginga Giri Giri (known for really good DBZ AMVs) released a well done AMV dedicated to Dragonball Evolution. This music video basically compares the anime to the live action film. This video does actually make the movie seem somewhat faithful to the movie and its really catchy and a really cool AMV. But it still doesn't make me forgive them for messing up a really cool anime.

the problem is trying to ground something in reality

i agree Dragonball is a fantasy world no way you can ground that. its funny ever since Justin Chatwin starred in DBE no one have not seen him again

Right and I agree with those reasons but I still think it was a crappy adaption. Atleat it was better thab The Last Airbender. Examples like Dragonball Evolution and The Last Airbender was terrible. Atleast Dragonball Evolution had its own story but on the same journey and it was a lot like the anime. The Last Airbender tried to follow the same story and journey while trying to be different. One of its many downfalls! The Prince of Persia was barely close to the game and I was angry but I couldnt complain because the movie was good. I can't wait for a real prince of Persia movie. It all matters what they think the movie is in their head's creation but doesn't mean they have to be Blind ass bats. Thats why there are changes because its wat it defines in their heads and reality but if they couldnt do Dragonball right, then why? they knew they didnt have that much money and stuff.

i liked the movie although it could have been MUCH MUCH better. but it is a FOX movie so don't expect much. with a budget of 45 millions we are lucky to get that kind of movie. the only thing that bothered me was roshi's hair and the 75 minutes of running time. i mean c'mon, the animated films last longer. it should have been at least 2 hours long. i think even the purist and haters should admit that the final fight, although short, was like the anime coming to life. i can't wait for no 2

the main problem with the film was adapting over 100 episodes into 75 minutes, the movie should have been 2 hours to cover more ground and character development and give the last fight even more.

the things they did right though was sticking with plot, character personality, and the quest.

the movie isn't as horrible as Purist like to make it out to be, but cramming over 100 eps into 75 mins... I mean come on that can't be done with out sacrifice, I think the sequels will do much better if they stick to a saga at a time first starting off with the Saiyain saga and ending it with talk about going to Namek to fight Freiza.

even comparing the two together it is still shit, all anime to film are crap.dragonball, speed racer, astroboy & even the preist will probably end up the same.
why? because they americanise them.if these movies had the same budget, with a full japanese cast & crew they may actually turn out alright.
only use american & english actors if the charactors are english & american in the manga or anime.
simple.

no krilin, no giant ape, no dinosaurs roaming the earth, no futuristic technologies, no vegeta, not much actual material from the original stuff, grandfather should be dead, goku is a teenager are you [frick]ing kidding me. I threw up in my mouth watching this movie, but not as much as i threw up in my mouth watching the crapiest 3D movie avatar, where was the 3D, the letters that was it, people who cannot get this shit right should not do the damn movie, if someone does bleach and [frick]s that up, while 3d is out someone should be castrated.
