Live Action Gigantor Movie Coming Our Way!

Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) will be adapting the much loved Gigantor for an explosive big screen bang....

Anime News has announced Gigantors going live-action. Mamoru Oshii has already adapted Gigantor earlier this year, mounting a stage production of a Gigantor show featuring a six metre tall (a 3rd of Gigantor's real size) stage giant robot that was capable of a free standing movement apparently.

Gigantor is an American adaptation of the anime version of Tetsujin 28-go, a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama released in 1956. It debuted on U.S. television in 1964. As with Speed Racer, the characters’ original names were altered and the original series’ violence was toned down for American viewers. Originally produced in black and white, the show was colorized and revived in the 1990s.

Exploits of Little Jimmy Sparks, a 12-year-old boy who controls Gigantor, a huge flying robot, with a remote control. The robot is made of steel and has a rocket-powered backpack for flight, a pointy nose, eyes that never move, and incredible strength, but no intelligence. Whoever has the remote control controls the giant robot Gigantor.

Imagi made a CG film of Gigantor, the teaser trailer is below that'll give us some clue of to what the live-action feature film could be like.

LEEE777 - I always thought a live-action "Iron Giant" would be great, so i'm all for this film, how about you, comments below.

LEEE777 - Excellent find! I can't believe that footage isn't even of the actual film!!! Hopefully it will be called "Gigantor" and not T-28! That name is too similar to the Terminator franchise(T-2).

With Astro Boy and Speed Racer already released, it was a matter of time before Gigantor was updated!

For those that don't know, this is the one that started it all! The very first of the super robots! Iron Giant was heavily influenced by this property, so it's nice to see the original receive its props!

Hopefully this will once and for all wash the taste of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers out of my mouth for good! I was so sick of ignorant youngin's thinking that show was the cream of the crop without even being aware of the Shogun Warriors, Gundam, Voltron, the Transformers and Tranzor Z/Mazinger!!

Now let's hurry up with the Battle of the Planets/Gatchaman and Robotech movies!!!

LEEE - Haven't heard anything on the Gatchaman CG front! Disney has a hella nerve releasing a movie called "G-Force"! I was waiting with baited breath for a lawsuit on that one!!!

Tobey Maguire was supposed to be starring in ROBOTECH! Don't know its current status. I assume its in limbo!

Jonf&LEEE@I think Gathamen is coming out next year and I heard they were writeing the script for Robotech.

I never got into Gigantor when they were shown on Adult Swim, but maybe this updated version would get me into it!

I don't think you can judge this movie by the failures of speed racer and astro boy. I mean by that token we shouldn't get a Wonder Woman movie because of Cat Woman and Electra

NEWS FLASH!

There was already a live-action movie about Gigantor. In 2005, there was a movie called "Tetsujin 28", which is the series' original name. I own this movie, and I must say, it's quite good.

Here's a link to the trailer.

GUNSMITH - You are my man! That 'toon was called Mighty Orbots!!! It came out in Sept. of '84, and was one of the best animated series ever done!!! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Someone who knows their shit!!!

Here's some eye candy for ya!

Enjoy!!

superdog - If you aren't aware, Gigantor, Astro Boy and Speed Racer's combined impact in the '60s are responsible for the Japanimation craze in the U.S. and other parts of the western world that still exists to this day! I'm more interested in seeing these movies get made than I am in critiquing them! They can always be re-done later on down the road!!

CaptainCook42 - NEWS FLASH!

That version SUCKED!! The video posted above is much better and looks far more exciting!!

There was a very cool version of Gigantor done in 1980 that is much more serious and dramatic! It was called Ironman 28!
