Anime News has announced Gigantors going live-action. Mamoru Oshii has already adapted Gigantor earlier this year, mounting a stage production of a Gigantor show featuring a six metre tall (a 3rd of Gigantor's real size) stage giant robot that was capable of a free standing movement apparently.
Gigantor is an American adaptation of the anime version of Tetsujin 28-go, a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama released in 1956. It debuted on U.S. television in 1964. As with Speed Racer, the characters’ original names were altered and the original series’ violence was toned down for American viewers. Originally produced in black and white, the show was colorized and revived in the 1990s.
Exploits of Little Jimmy Sparks, a 12-year-old boy who controls Gigantor, a huge flying robot, with a remote control. The robot is made of steel and has a rocket-powered backpack for flight, a pointy nose, eyes that never move, and incredible strength, but no intelligence. Whoever has the remote control controls the giant robot Gigantor.
Imagi made a CG film of Gigantor, the teaser trailer is below that'll give us some clue of to what the live-action feature film could be like.
