Marvel & director Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and The Wasp managed to amass $76.5 million over the course of its three-day opening weekend, which puts the sequel near the lower end of its tracking. Check it out.

The numbers are in, and Marvel's Ant-Man and The Wasp has taken in $76.5 million over the course of its first weekend on release at the domestic box office. Globally, Peyton Reeds' sequel currently sits at $161 million.

Tracking had indicated that the movie could rise as high as $82 million, and while its actual tally is not that much behind, the 30% drop from Friday to Saturday - bigger than all previous July/August Marvel Studios releases - is higher than anyone anticipated and might be cause for concern.

That said, the movie still managed to come in 33% percent ahead of the first Ant-Man and is holding steady at the #1 spot.

Below expectations? This film was expected to make between $69-80M; even you look at the latter expectations they were between $75-85M. That's IN LINE with expectations, not below them.
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if the final number is actually above $80M (keep in mind that Black Panther and Infinity War both had actuals significantly higher than their estimates).
Additionally, the $85M overseas opening in half of its markets is higher than the $50-70M that was predicted. This film is a hit.

@Pantherpool - preach!

@Pantherpool - Tracking indicated that it could reach up to 85, which means it arrived at the low end of expectations. Fact. There's no spin here, it's just the news.

@RorMachine - While the article itself does make it clear, the title states it came below expectations, which doesn't mean the same thing as low end of expectations.

@Pantherpool - They increased expectations after Thursday's previews and again after Friday's full day. But what they did not expect was the 30% fall-off on Saturday (15% was the thought) and that accounts for 5M of the difference. The expectation for Sunday is 18M and that is about 1M lower than earlier in the weekend.

@Pantherpool - Low end is below expectations when it comes to Marvel. AMATW actually scored the fifth-lowest opening for a Marvel movie ever. Their films usually meet or exceed expectations. Not doom and gloom, but it's definitely noteworthy. I'm sure the movie will do just fine.

@RorMachine - "Low end is below expectations when it comes to Marvel."

Seriously?

@Pantherpool - Ummm, yes? Do you imagine there's a world of difference between low end of and below expectations in any context?

@RorMachine - There is if you don't ignore logic.

@RorMachine - I mean yeah if the low end is "within expectations" then that's was within the range of what they....expected?

And if it's below what they expected, then it has a different context my guy

@Pantherpool -
Nah, new numbers were putting it close to an $87M overperformance, and one person here was talking $100M.

@Pantherpool - I don't think he knows the difference between the words "low" and "below". Wow. I'm flabbergasted and I don't mean that in a good way.
Pantherpool
Pantherpool - 7/8/2018, 9:33 AM
@RorMachine - In other words: Low end is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Below expectations was Justice League.

@Battabing - $100M was wishful thinking. $87M was by few sites. Deadline had it at $82M yesterday, but the tracking was still $70-85M overall. $76M isn't below expectations at all.

@RorMachine - Pantherpool is saying that expectations were 75-85 mil. The film got 76 mil (as of right now). It met expectations. It didn't come in below them. So yeah, the headline is slightly spun.

@NOVAtheSUPA - I'm not trying to make him say what I want him to say though; I'm trying to make him realise that stating the number is below expectations is incorrect and even the article itself doesn't agree with that title lmao.

@CaptainBing - "Tracking towards" and "expected to make" are two different things. AMATW came in on the low end of tracking, but below expectations because nobody would have guessed that any Marvel Movie would under-perform. And as I've previously stated, the movie scored the fifth-lowest opening for a Marvel movie ever. That's below expectations all day long.

My report on the numbers is actually balanced compared to some of the others out there, trust me.
