AQUAMAN 2 Star Patrick Wilson Teases "Bigger, Better & Broader" Sequel; Shares Production Update

With Aquaman 2 set to begin shooting soon, star Patrick Wilson has teased his return as the villainous(?) King Orm, aka Ocean Master, while praising director James Wan's "super fun" sequel...

We got confirmation that Patrick Wilson was set to reprise the role of King Orm, aka Ocean Master, for James Wan's Aquaman sequel during the DC FanDome event last year, and the Watchmen actor recently revealed that he'd begun his training regime in anticipation of production getting underway.

Now, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It star has shared a filming update while also teasing Wan's "super fun" plans for the follow-up.

"With James, when he comes back for a sequel, it becomes bigger and better and broader and more funny, more action, more character work," Wilson tells ET Online, adding that he's now in his "eighth week of training," and that production should be ready to commence in "a couple of months."

Ocean Master laid down his trident and allowed himself to be led away by the Atlanteans at the end of the first film, and there's been a lot of speculation that he'll ultimately wind up joining forces with his half-brother to combat a larger threat. Black Manta, perhaps?

We still don't know what to expect from the plot, but it's assumed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's vengeful David Hyde will be the main villain this time. There's also a good chance that The Trench will feature more prominently, given director James Wan's fondness for the deep-sea terrors.

Jason Momoa and Amber Heard will reprise their respective roles as Arthur Curry and Mera, and we recently found out that Game of Thrones alum Pilou Asbaek was in final talks to join the cast, though no details on his role were provided.

Aquaman 2 is set to swim into theaters on December 16, 2022

The first one had some issues, but Wan REALLY did a great job of bringing Atlantis to life and giving a fun ass adventure movie. I enjoyed the hell out of it!

But damn, Heard as Mera is atrocious and her chemistry with Momoa was non existent and cringey.

The first movie was a pleasant surprise, and pretty darn enjoyable overall, but a tad unbalanced. If they level the scale of the humor a bit more, and don't go as offset as WW84 got, they'll have another hit on their hands.

Patrick Wilson is great. He should’ve been cast as Aquaman!

The first one had a lot of enjoyable elements, and Wilson's Orm is one of them. So I'm glad he's back, although I wonder in what capacity

Is WB really going to release Aquaman 2 on the same date as Avatar 2?

@WakandaTech - my bet is that they move it up a week or two in order to open first.

Black Manta could guide "The Trench" into the heart of Atlantis. Something as terrible as a biblical plague. Women, men and children attacked by nightmare creatures.

In this situation, Ocean Master would not help Arthur. He would help his people. Men, women and children who can die attacked by these creatures.

@Repian - Wasn't Aquaman commanding The Trench in the first movie? I may be wrong though.

@GreypilgrimXXX - Yes that's how it is. But Black Manta now collaborates with Professor Shin. He can do something about it. He must be helpful.

@Repian - Thanks for clarifying. I hope Black Manta is written better if he is the lead bad guy, all he did was shout in the first movie, I mean he literally was portrayed as an angry black.

The Trench feature more prominently? Who are we kidding? They're going to be the main villains since that movie got axed.
